What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Sensory Panelists position at Firmenich?
dsm-firmenich has MULTIPLE openings for part-time panelists who are willing to evaluate flavors, fragrances, and consumer products using their senses of taste and smell!
Key Responsibilities:
- Panelists will evaluate the taste and smell of food, beverage, and odorant samples by meticulously following oral and written instructions.
- Evaluations will be performed individually and in a group under the guidance of a panel leader.
- Evaluations will be performed using paper ballots, tablets, and laptops; whenever possible, assistive technology will be provided to panelists with disabilities.
- All safeguards of human subject research (e.g., informed consent) will be implemented.
- Panelists will contribute to group discussions by sharing their insights and listening to those of others.
- Samples will contain finished food and beverage products, product prototypes still in development, and simple dilutions (e.g., food ingredients dissolved in water); all sample ingredients will be disclosed to panelists in advance.
- Before being admitted to the panel, applicants will need to pass a series of sensory acuity screening tests. Panelists not admitted to the panel will be paid for their time.
Requirements:
- No experience required.
- Must be able to commit to at least 1 year of testing. Sensory evaluations will occur every Wednesday from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Please note: the panel runs during business hours.
- Must be free of major food allergies and dietary restrictions.
- Should have good communication skills, willingness to take direction from panel leaders and work well within a team of other sensory panelists.
- Applicants should have an excellent sense of smell and of taste, as well as the ability to accurately describe what they taste and smell.
- Applicants should be free of aversions to nearly all common foods and beverages.
