Description
The GAP Graduate Student Intern will support the GAP team with key policy activities to monitor policy developments that are in alignment with our 2025 Policy Agenda. This includes:
- Management of the legislative tracker
- Analysis of federal and state legislative and budget proposals
- Meeting support for public bodies staffed by GAP team, policy tables, and community presentations
- Conduct deep-dive research and data analysis on public policy issues for reports, presentations, and other written materials that communicate synthesized findings, implications of proposed or adopted legislation and policy/administrative changes; assessment of best/emerging practices in the field; and proposed recommendations for First 5, systems partners, and legislative bodies.
- Develop written materials (position letters, reports, briefs, memos, overviews, etc.), presentations, outlines, timelines, tools, dashboards, and templates in service to the agency’s strategic plan goals.
- Project management support of GAP team activities.
- Demonstrate ownership of project timelines, analysis, and all work projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Completed college with four-year degree and a graduate of or currently enrolled in a Master’s level graduate school program. Programs in the social sciences, business, health care, public policy, public health or public administration fields preferred.
Knowledge of:
Familiarity with researching and locating data (socioeconomic, education, general population, health, etc.) and analyzing data.
Ability to:
- Work collaboratively with community agencies and stakeholders
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, work as part of a team
- Organize and prioritize work and work well under deadlines in a fast-paced, growing organization
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity in a variety of contexts
- Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, including ability to write reports
- Take initiative and work independently with little supervision
- Collect, compile and summarize varied information, consider alternatives and reach sound conclusions
- Adapt to a variety of situations
- Exercise sound judgment within generally established policies and procedures
Please note:
- We are currently working a hybrid 2 day per week in-office schedule and employees also come to the office to attend meetings and as requested.
- All First 5 employees must live and work in California.
- The salary range for this position is $30.00/hr and 15 - 20 hours per week. As an independent government agency, the posted salary is the set salary for this position. We cannot offer salaries above this posted range.
