About the Role:
First Bank of Montana is hiring a Commercial Loan Officer to be an integral part of our team in our Lewistown, Montana location! This position involves providing lending solutions to the bank's commercial customers. It requires a positive attitude and great customer service skills. This position involves the ability to work in a team atmosphere and promote all of the bank's products and services. Professionalism, confidentiality, good attendance, punctuality, flexibility and adaptability are a must!

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will have extensive contact with bank staff as well as with external customers. He/She will be expected to conduct him/herself in a manner that will enhance the overall efficiency and image of the bank. It will be a requirement to build and maintain rapport with co-workers in order to complete tasks in a timely manner while following all policy and regulatory requirements.

Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Dodd-Frank Act, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Must complete the assigned online training courses and achieve a score of 85% or greater by due date.

Responsible for maintaining loan quality in compliance with bank policy and procedures, underwriting standards, and documentation requirements.

Loan Officer Essential Functions:
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all bank products and services
  • Grow your in-house loan portfolio.
  • Identify and develop profitable relationships with potential new customers by maintaining an aggressive call schedule.
  • Cross-sell bank products and refer customers, when appropriate, to other departments or affiliate banks.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing new products and services.
  • Participate in market analysis of competitors’ rates and make recommendations based on the findings.
  • Develop and maintain profitable relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Obtain loan applications, properly counsel applicants, analyze financial and related data, determine appropriate pricing and loan structure and make appropriate loan decisions according to bank policies and procedures.
  • Maintain high service standards for all customers (internal and external), working closely with First Bank of Montana managers and staff.
  • Review all credit reports, financial statements, tax returns, title insurance commitments and appraisals to ensure all documentation is complete and correct.
  • Monitor and act appropriately on past due loans to ensure compliance with bank’s policies, procedures, and goals.
  • Maintain a current awareness of legal and regulatory developments and guidelines, and current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and issues related to compliance for the bank.
Other Job Functions:

  • Perform job functions in compliance with all company policies and procedures, federal and state rules and regulations as applicable to the position, including, but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC and GLBA/privacy rules.
  • Keep management appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Participate in community service and bank sponsored activities that serve and support the mission and values of First Bank of Montana.
  • Provide superior internal and external customer service: must demonstrate self-governance, courtesy, and respect toward external customers as well as internal customers (all organization personnel).
  • Represent First Bank of Montana in a professional manner which includes a professional image, confidentiality, a positive “can-do” attitude, punctuality, flexibility and adaptability in meeting bank and customer needs. Keep work area tidy and maintain customer privacy. Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job in order to accomplish, among other things, in-person contact with customers.
  • Additional duties as requested or assigned.
About You:
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in business/finance or equivalent experience preferred
  • 2 years banking experience
  • 1 year lending experience with history of growing portfolio
  • 1 year sales/customer service experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITY:
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. and the ability to learn new systems/applications

Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off-site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines and/or using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
