First Baptist Church, Vega Texas
Position Summary: The Pastor serves as the spiritual leader and primary shepherd of First Baptist Vega, responsible for leading the congregation in accordance with New Testament principles. The Pastor provides visionary leadership, biblical teaching, pastoral care, and administrative oversight to advance the mission of the church: Commiting to impact every person in our community and beyond with the gospel to bring them to salvation, teach them discipleship, and equip them to minister. The Pastor collaborates with church staff, deacons, and ministry leaders to ensure effective ministry, spiritual growth, and outreach to the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Spiritual Leadership:
- Proclaim the gospel to believers and unbelievers through preaching, teaching, and personal ministry.
- Ensure the pulpit is filled for every service, personally or by arranging for a qualified substitute.
- Provide spiritual guidance and biblical counsel to individuals and families as needed.
- Work with deacons, committees, and staff to lead the church in fulfilling its mission and advancing its ministries.
- Pastoral Care:
- Visit church members regularly, including hospitalized members and those in need of spiritual encouragement.
- Engage with unchurched individuals in the community to build relationships and share the gospel.
- Provide care and support for church members during times of crisis, grief, or significant life events.
- Administrative Leadership:
- Supervise ministerial and non-ministerial staff, providing guidance, support, and accountability.
- Communicate regularly with directors, ministry leaders, and committees to coordinate activities and decisions.
- Oversee church operations, ensuring adherence to policies, budgets, and bylaws.
- Arrange, in collaboration with appropriate committees, for revival preachers, song leaders, and other special events.
- Worship Leadership:
- Plan and lead worship services that honor God and foster congregational participation.
- Collaborate with the music leader, worship team, and other volunteers to enhance worship experiences.
- Community Engagement:
- Represent the church in the community and participate in outreach activities.
- Take an active role in church group functions, such as Vacation Bible School, camps, and other ministry programs.
- Stewardship and Accountability:
- Make no expenditures outside the approved budget without prior church approval.
- Report all absences to the personnel committee and ensure arrangements are made for services during those times.
- Maintain open communication with church leadership regarding all church matters.
- Professional Development:
- Attend conferences, conventions, and continuing education opportunities as budgeted.
- Take two weeks of paid vacation annually, including two Sundays off, with pay for revival participation.
Qualifications:
- A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a strong commitment to biblical teaching and pastoral ministry.
- Ordained as a Baptist minister and in agreement with the church’s Statement of Basic Beliefs. (Article II)
- Ability to Function in cooperation with the Amarillo Area Baptist Association and the Baptist General Convention of Texas
- Proven experience in pastoral leadership, preaching, and church administration.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, deacons, and ministry leaders.
Reports To: The Pastor reports to the congregation and works closely with the deacons and personnel committee for accountability and guidance.
