Housekeeping/Custodian

We are looking for a responsible custodian to maintain and protect our facilities. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the occupants. It is important for a custodian to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises, as well as preventing vandalism. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large space. A keen eye for detail and diligence are imperative in custodial maintenance jobs. Hours scheduled for this position will be a split shift of 11:00AM-2:00 PM & 4:00PM-9:00 PM or any other variation as needed to cover special events and ensure all daily duties are thoroughly complete. Light maintenance such as changing light bulbs, a/c filters, adjusting thermostats, minor plumbing repair, etc. is often required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces.
• Assist to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of 11 daycare classrooms and common areas as well as daycare laundry.
• Sweep, mop floors, and vacuum carpets.
• Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap)
• Wipe mirrors and windows.
• Maintain outer premises by cleaning entrances.
• Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.)
• Report major damages and oversee repairs.
• Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, etc..
• Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (lifting heavy items, moving chairs, tables, etc.).
• Must be able to climb an 8ft ladder to change ceiling tiles or light bulbs.
• Must be a team player and willing to adapt your work schedule to meet the needs of a variety of ministry events and/or meetings which may take place within the church building.

Skills

• Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role.
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
• Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices.
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
• Very good physical condition and strength.
• High school diploma is preferred but not required.
• Must submit to a local, state, and federal criminal background check.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
