Job Description

Job Title: Associate Pastor of Outreach
Position Objective: Provide pastoral/theological care and oversight for the outreach efforts of First Baptist Powell. Assist Elders, Senior Pastor, Associate Pastors, and other ministry leaders to ensure faithful cohesiveness and unity of direction among these efforts.
Position Description: The Associate Pastor of Outreach is a staff elder who oversees First Baptist Powell’s outreach efforts in accordance with Christ’s commission “to make disciples of all nations” by cultivating a culture of bold and winsome gospel sharing. Such pastoral oversight will help to ensure that each of our outreach efforts coalesce with theological and ecclesial unity around the mission of First Baptist Powell. Moreover, the Associate Pastor of Outreach will lead in submission to First Baptist Powell’s Member Covenant and Confession (Abstract of Principles).

Required Qualifications:
Spiritual
- Demonstrates a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a growing personal relationship with Him expressed by ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, personal worship, fasting, confession, and fellowship.
- Commitment to moral purity.
- Commitment to the mission and direction of FBP.
- Meets the character qualifications of an elder found in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:6–9 and exhibits the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22.
- Approaches his pastoral ministry with acute theological awareness and insight.
- Understands, endorses, teaches, and lives according to the church’s biblical and theological teaching and ethics as expressed in the Abstract of Principles and Member Covenant.
Professional
- Demonstrated faithfulness as a pastor or leader within a like-minded church or missionary setting (minimum: 5 years; preferably of similar size or larger).
- M.Div or equivalent required.
- Demonstrated passion for evangelism and missions within previous pastoral ministry.
- Demonstrated commitment to disciple other followers of Christ.
- Pastoral ministry characterized by grace, patience, and a commitment to God’s Word.
- Driven to improve while cultivating the virtues of contentment and patience.

- Generous pastoral leadership.
- Committed to communing with God in consistent and regular prayer.
- Demonstrates teachability and the desire to grow spiritually, theologically, and pastorally.

General Responsibilities as Associate Pastor:
- Provide pastoral and gospel-motivated care for the members of First Baptist Powell.
- Once an Elder, participate with the other staff elders and non-staff elders in the privileges and responsibilities of an elder.
- Contribute to the biblical/theological diet of the members of First Baptist Powell through various opportunities to preach and/or teach.
- Invest time developing relationships with lost people so as to be effective in pursuing the Great Commission and helping the church to do the same.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor or Elders.
Specific Responsibilities Related to Outreach:
- Provide pastoral and theological leadership for all staff and volunteers serving within FBP’s outreach ministries.
- Resource and develop staff serving within FBP’s outreach ministries.
- Meet regularly with each staff member serving within FBP’s outreach ministries in order to provide pastoral care, establish ministry goals, and evaluate ministry needs and success.
- Assist other Associate Pastors, directors, and volunteers to ensure coherence and collaboration between all outreach efforts in accordance with the FBP Mission and the Abstract of Principles.
- Oversee local evangelism, including developing and implementing strategies for mobilizing First Baptist Powell members to reach target areas/people groups with the gospel.
- Oversee local engagement efforts including developing and implementing strategies for mobilizing First Baptist Powell members to build relationships with unchurched neighbors and members of the broader community.
- Oversee national and international missions efforts by developing partners on the field and mobilizing First Baptist Powell members to serve through various short and mid-term mission efforts.
- Provide pastoral and theological support for mission partners on the field.
