Position Overview:
First Baptist School of Charleston seeks a dedicated and experienced Athletic Director to lead and oversee the school's athletic program. The Athletic Director will report directly to the High School Principal-JI Campus Director. This individual will be responsible for developing, staffing, and managing a competitive and character-driven athletic program that aligns with the school’s mission and values.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in physical education and/or school-affiliated coaching.
- At least 3 years of independent school leadership experience (Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, Department Chair, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree in athletic administration, physical education, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
- Demonstrated success in working with student-athletes, preferably in an independent school setting.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and budgetary skills.
- High-energy and passionate about working in a Christ-centered academic environment.
- Possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement or be willing to undergo training to earn one (Preferred).
Responsibilities:
- Develop, oversee, and evaluate a comprehensive athletic program that supports student growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Recruit, hire, and mentor a team of skilled and dedicated coaches who uphold the school’s mission and values.
- Supervise and support all athletic programs, ensuring that they operate with excellence, professionalism, and integrity.
- Establish and enforce high standards of student-athlete behavior, conduct, and sportsmanship.
- Oversee scheduling of all athletic events, including games, practices, and tournaments, ensuring logistical efficiency and smooth operations.
- Collaborate with the Director of Transportation to arrange travel, recruit referees, and oversee game-day logistics.
- Coordinate with the Director of Facilities to oversee the management and maintenance of all athletic facilities, fields, and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Develop and oversee the athletic department budget, ensuring responsible allocation of resources.
- Promote the achievements of athletic teams and student-athletes through communication with the school community and external partners.
- Collaborate with school leadership on student eligibility, academic progress, and compliance with athletic league requirements.
- Foster strong relationships with parents, students, faculty, and external athletic organizations to enhance the overall athletic experience.
- Represent First Baptist School at local, regional, and state athletic associations.
- Oversee the distribution, collection, storage, and maintenance of all athletic uniforms and equipment.
- In conjunction with the Director of Advancement, organize and coordinate fundraising initiatives to support the athletic department.
- Attend school-wide events, faculty meetings, and leadership team meetings to ensure seamless integration of athletics into the overall school program.

- Network and build relationships with peer institutions and the at-large community
- Serve as a visible and enthusiastic supporter of the school’s athletic teams and student-athletes.
