First-Centenary United Methodist Church in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Director of Children’s Ministry to lead and inspire our youngest members in their faith journey. First-Centenary is a large membership church with thriving student ministries from birth to college. A qualified applicant should have a college degree, previous children’s ministry experience, be technologically savvy, have a passion for connecting with and developing children into strong young adult Christians, the emotional and relational maturity to relate to children, parents, and adult volunteers, and possess (or be willing to learn / teach) a Wesleyan / Methodist theological approach to children’s ministry and theology.
As the Director of Children’s Ministry, your most important role will be helping children of various backgrounds experience the love and grace of Jesus. At the end of their time in children’s ministry, we want them to enter into young adulthood with a foundation of faith that will empower a lifetime of continued faithfulness. You will also play a key role in leading and training childcare staff and volunteers, ensuring a safe and nurturing space for all. Administrative responsibilities include managing budgets, maintaining records, and effectively communicating with families and church leadership. Additionally, we value innovative engagement strategies, including the use of technology and social media, to connect with our church community. Collaboration is central to this position. You will work closely with church staff, volunteers, and families to create a dynamic and cohesive ministry.

Purpose
The role of the Director of Children’s Ministry is to nurture the spiritual growth
of the children in the First-Centenary United Methodist congregation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Children’s Christian Education :
- Purchase and implement curriculum for Sunday school, Sunday night and
Wednesday night children’s programming
Christian Education.
Children’s Events and Activities
those during Christmas, Advent, Lent and summer activities; as well as
community building events for families and children throughout the year.
o These events include but are not limited to Vacation Bible School,
Easter Egg Hunt, No Rehearsal Christmas Pageant, End of Year and
School Kick off gatherings, Kids Camp / Parents Night Out, etc.
Lead and Oversee Childcare Staff :
families on Sundays, Wednesday nights and special events selected by
ordained clergy.
Administration / Leadership / Communication
reports, make presentations, etc.)
