Job Description
Position Title: Behavioral Specialist
Department: First Children Learning Services
Reports To: Regional Director
Position Summary:
The Behavioral Specialist(LBS/BSC) conducts functional behavioral assessments and provides behavior analytic interpretations of the results. The BCBA designs and supervises behavior analytic interventions. The Behavioral Specialist can effectively develop and implement appropriate assessment and intervention methods for use across multiple environments and for a range of cases. The Behavioral Specialist seeks the consultation of more experienced practitioners when necessary. The Behavioral Specialist teaches others to carry out ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions based on published research and designs and delivers instruction in behavior analysis. Behavioral Specialists supervise the work of the ABA therapists on their teams.

Job Responsibilities:
FBAs/BSPs
Conducts initial and ongoing functional behavior assessments every 6 months or as
clinically indicated, as overseen by a BCBA
Develops/updates individualized and evidence-based behavior intervention plans
based on assessment results every 6 months or as clinically indicated, as overseen by
a BCBA
Creates behavior datasheets that match behavior intervention plans in target name,
operational definition, and measurement, as overseen by a BCBA
Submits draft FBAs and behavior plans to their supervisor at least one week before
their due date
IEPs
Conducts baseline data and/or assessments to draft IEP or insurance treatment plan
goals
Submits draft IEPs to their supervisor at least one week before their due date
Progress Reports
Summarizes client progress and provides goal status updates in a progress report
minimally twice a year
Submits draft progress reports to their supervisor at least one week before their due
date
Case Management Responsibilities
Collects, monitors, and analyzes data to ensure data-driven decisions and program
modifications are made on an ongoing basis
Reviews session notes from BTs/RBTs on an ongoing basis (minimally once every
other week)
Completes progress reports for his/her caseload as needed and submits reports to
supervisor one week before their due date
Ensures programming for his/her caseload is created in CentralReach
Creates and maintains program materials
Team Responsibilities
Ensures relevant team members, including BTs/RBTs, teachers, related service
therapists, and parents/guardians, are trained on student-specific programming and
data collection
Responds to questions/concerns from team members and families in a timely manner
(including issues that arise after business hours)
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides clinical supervision to BTs/RBTs on their teams in line with minimum state
and BACB requirements
Ensures clinical supervision is accurately documented
Completes feedback tools on BTs/RBTs on a monthly basis to ensure consistent and
accurate implementation of academic and clinical programming
Reviews feedback tools with BTs/RBTs in a timely manner and ensures signatures
are collected at the time of the review
Provides BTs/RBTs with prompt and supportive feedback/retraining regarding all observations in a timely manner
Education, Experience and Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Applied Behavior
Analysis, or a related field. Master’s Degree
PA Behavior Specialist License preferred
2 years experience developing and implementing ABA programs for children and adolescents in home, school, and community settings preferred
Clearances (current within 90 days)
Child Abuse Clearance
Criminal Clearance
Federal Criminal History Record
Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release– to be completed for each employer where the candidate worked with children
Completed Mandated Reporter Training (Act 31)
Completed Arrest and Conviction Report (Act 82)
Completed Tuberculosis (TB) screening
Possession of a valid Driver’s License and have reliable transportation
Must be at least 21 years old
Knowledge of:
Current and best practice intervention strategies
Ethics, laws, and regulations of acceptable interventions
Developmental processes of children, adolescents, and adults
Intellectual, behavioral disabilities, and mental health diagnoses
Current and best practice in supervision of staff
Skills and Abilities:
Web based electronic systems and access health records
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Office
Stand, sit on the floor, bend, and squat for extended period of times
Run for short distances
Lift up to 50 lbs.
Understand behavioral situations and react accordingly in an ethical manner
Objectively analyze crisis situations
Respond quickly to emergency situations in a calm and composed manner
Communicate effectively in both oral and written form and make recommendations to
various agency staff and outside professionals, groups, or individuals
Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
Demonstrate the ability to receive feedback in a professional manner and apply feedback
to novel situations
Demonstrate exemplary writing skills (e.g., ability to write in a clear and concise manner
with minimal spelling and grammar errors)
Work independently and make decisions within the framework of established guidelines
Demonstrate attention to detail
Exceptional time management skills, ability to rearrange schedule based on cancellations
or extended absences
Meets the minimum required billable hours as per the BCBA’s signed Compensation Agreement
