GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The Parts Prep/Shipping employee is responsible for the quality, appearance and accuracy of outgoing orders that have been prepared for shipping, delivery or pick-up by the customer.
JOB SCOPE
This position operates within fairly established parameters. The successful parts prep/shipping employee will maintain consistent contact with the Sales, Dismantling and Dispatch staff to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of work orders from start to finish. In addition, the incumbent interacts daily with ShipEasy/UPS and common carrier vendors, as well as automotive industry vendors and other yards.Care must be taken when pulling, cleaning and preparing parts for shipment/delivery to minimize damage or returns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Examine stock and brokered parts for wear and defects and compares with records such as purchase orders and work orders to verify accuracy
- Record discrepancies in the part’s description such as unrecorded damage on the purchase order or work order. Works with internal resources to rectify problems found
- Examine part’s appearance to confirm it meets established company standard
- Responsible for doing refurbishment necessary to bring part to the established appearance standard
- Pack, seal, label, or affix labels to prepare materials for shipping, using the appropriate tag
- Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, packing lists or invoices to route materials
- Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
- Deliver or route materials to appropriate staging area using hand truck, lift truck, forklift or sorting bins
- Requisition and store quality control and shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock
- Responsible for housekeeping in QC area
- Package and stage parts for shipping via ShipEasy/UPS or other common freight carrier or for delivery on company vehicles
- Prepare documents for shipment via ShipEasy/UPS and freight/common carrier
- Invoice the parts through the Pinnacle system
- Clean up all work areas throughout the day to ensure safety of self and others
- Complete the work order and move it out of the work order manager in Pinnacle
- Run manifests and confirm payment status, delivery/pick up by dates for each shipping carrier before carrier arrives.
- Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment in designated work areas and follow all safety standards at all times
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide back-up support for dispatch or delivery as needed. Special training will be provided once Essential Functions are mastered
- Keep workspace in a clean and safe state
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- General automotive knowledge preferred
- Forklift certification is required; training will be provided if needed in order to obtain certification
- Ability to read, write and speak English required
- Ability to type accurately and quickly preferred
- Valid motor vehicle license and clean driving record recommended
- Knowledge of Pinnacle, Mitchell Collision Guides recommended
- Knowledge of UPS Worldship System/ShipEasy
- Ability to perform in high traffic/volume situations
- Ability to work unsupervised, and maintain reliable attendance, work performance and safety standards
- Ability to manage several tasks consecutively; think logically to apply specific principles to solve everyday practical problems and deal with a variety of specific variables and situations where limited standardization exists
- Ability to function in a team environment putting organizational and team goals as a priority
JOB CONDITIONS
- Exposed daily to weather extremes as some inventory racks and vehicle hulks are outside
- All work begun by cut-off times must be completed prior to leaving for the day, therefore, occasional overtime is required
- Exposure to dirt, dust and pests related to salvage yard environment
- Work pressure can be substantial during peak times, requiring considerable adaptability
- Personal Protective Equipment must be worn in certain work areas of the business and while performing certain tasks

Every Parts Prep/Shipping employee must provide their own set of general hand tools. The company will provide the following tools and equipment:
- Reciprocating Saw
- Glass blaster for removing glass
- Electric utility cart
- Forklift, medium
- Pallet jack
- Scales
- Pressure washer
- Shrink-wrap tool
- Foam machine
- Bander
- Box cutters
- Wash hose and spray nozzle
- Desktop computer, tablet, fax, phone, printer, barcode scanner
