Facilities and Grounds Maintenance Person
Job Summary
This position is responsible for the cleaning, maintenance, and repairs of the church’s building, property, and rental home to keep them safe, clean, and inviting. This individual manages outside professionals, community assistance volunteers, and church volunteer groups that assist in accomplishing this work.
Supervisor: Senior Pastor.
Salary and Benefits: $37,700/year
1 week/year paid vacation after 6 months of service; 2 weeks/year paid vacation after 1 year of service
Tax-deferred retirement account benefit, if desired.
No insurance benefits are associated with this position.
Hours
This is a full-time position. Because inspection and cleaning will occasionally need to be done on Saturdays or early Sunday mornings to prepare for Sunday worship, another weekday can be designated for time-off.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Weekly vacuum, mop, straighten up, and remove trash and debris from the church building and grounds. Clean and sanitize high-contact areas (i.e. doors, light switches, and sitting areas).
Maintain the landscaping and grounds for aesthetic appeal—coordinating church volunteer help when possible.
Stock and repair bathrooms.
Obtain bids, hire, and meet outside professionals for larger repairs. Consult with FCC’s Property Coach for expenses potentially exceeding $1,000.
Clean the gym and youth area for First Friends Preschool’s use on Monday mornings.
Clean glass windows and doors as needed.
Inspect for potential maintenance issues. Maintain short- and long-term property maintenance lists for volunteers, groups, and routine maintenance.
Oversee work done by community volunteers needing financial assistance and coordinate volunteer Church Work Days.
Remove carpet stains as needed.
Budget for and purchase cleaning supplies and maintenance equipment.
Maintain heating/air systems and change filters. Set and program thermostats for services and events.
Set up tables and chairs for special events, as directed by church staff.
Clear gutters and roof drains. Address roof leaks when necessary and change ceiling tiles as needed.
Clean, maintain, and service the church minibus.
Work alongside the Property Management Company to oversee the church’s rental property. Alert Church Treasurer of potential expenses.
Ensure sidewalks and parking lots are cleared and safe following ice or snow storms.
Periodically maintain gym floor—scrub, strip, & wax.
Qualifications and Skills
Integrity
Self-starter with good time management.
Attention to detail.
Basic repair, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills are immensely helpful, but not required.
Some physical capabilities are required, such as moderate lifting and climbing ladders.
There is a 60-day probationary period for all new staff members.
