Works under the direction of the Senior Technology Manager (Systems and Computer Operations) in the management of all iSeries related computer activities, capacity planning, disaster recovery planning, system tuning, technical assistance and technical training for other First Commonwealth departments. Responsible for the management of the IBM iSeries systems and system products, including keeping maintenance up to date and ensure product features and currency. Research and development of new operating system products and features for the purpose of operating efficiency and maximum utilization of hardware resources. Is knowledgeable of the core banking and ATM/debit card production processing environments, their integration with the IBM iseries and Middleware (Interpro and Jack Henry) servers and provides technical support to each as it relates to ongoing systems processing, availability and performance. Documentation of all system changes and procedures. Functions as lead technical coordinator for projects.
Essential Job Responsibilities____________________________________
1. Independently supports all technical facets of multiple assigned operating systems and banking applications. Is knowledgeable of the core banking and ATM/debit card production processing environments, their integration with the IBM iseries and Middleware (Interpro and Jack Henry) servers and provides technical support to each as it relates to ongoing systems processing, availability and performance.
2. Coordinates and performs operating system and application maintenance, including backup and recovery processes for applications and databases
3. Supports new technology products and makes strategy recommendations to management and leadership
4. Develops plan for business continuity, including monitoring system utilization/performance for capacity planning purposes
5. Manages relationships with hardware and software vendors
6. Functions as a technical lead on projects and/or independently manages projects, coordinating activities of programming staff and staff of other departments as assigned
7. Contributes to the development of project plans and testing plans.
8. Executes testing of system changes in accordance with the direction of management and project teams.
9. Researches and trouble-shoots problems related to processes affecting the production and testing environments.
10. Responsible to maintain documentation in accordance with standards of department and organization.
11. Adheres to procedures governing proper change control measures.
12. Perform backup management responsibilities as assigned.
13. Position may require non-traditional working hours to support projects and the production environments.
14. Participate in off-hours on-call requirements as assigned by management.
15. Maintains and develop procedures to support departmental processes.
16. Management responsibilities include development and training of support staff, enforcement of corporate policies and procedures, development of policies and procedures as needed, and development and testing of disaster recovery processes.
17. Act as a mentor for staff while performing needed cross-training.
18. Provides 7x24 support as presented and is engaged in third party / vendor management support requirements in support of the systems / applications assigned.
Bona Fide Occupational Qualifications_____________________________
1. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in information systems or related field preferred.
2. A minimum of four (5) years of specific IBM iSeries experience required. Programming skills in RPG and CL are preferred. Proficient reading, writing, and grammar skills; proficient analytical and mathematical skills, proficient communicative and interpersonal relations skills.
3. Technical Experience: Systems administration skills related to IBM iSeries required.
4. Previous IT management experience a plus; minimum of five (5) years of IT experience preferred; project management experience preferred; experience in banking industry preferred.
5. Travel is necessary for training, participation in user conferences, special projects, business resumption, etc.
6. A general working understanding of infrastructure technologies and concepts is preferred
7. Ability to demonstrate lateral thinking required to solve complex technical problems
8. Demonstrated knowledge in iSeries configuration and downstream applications
9. Demonstrated knowledge in TCP/IP and iSeries networking configuration
10. Demonstrated knowledge of network devices and basic network principals
11. Knowledge of BRMS, backup and recovery application and Networking is preferred
12. Knowledge of IBMi Power Systems, External Storage, and IBMi Operating System installation and configuration skills.
13. Knowledge of security exit point software (Fortra, Network Security/Exit Point Manager/etc.) preferred.
14. Knowledge of iSeries High Availability software MIMIX (Vision Solutions)
15. Knowledge of Performance Tuning and the ability to troubleshoot performance issues
16. Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
17. Ability to work outside of normal working hours due to maintenance windows being 11pm – 5am EST.
