Child Care Supervisor Job Description

Direct Supervisor/Reports To: Minister for Youth, Young Adults, and Emerging Ministries
Staff Reporting Relationships: Consults with Minister for Youth, Young Adults, and Emerging Ministries
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and care for children, and to perform cleaning duties in the nursery
Experience Required: Experienced care of infants and toddlers, ability to communicate with parents/guardian
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To provide safe, secure, nurturing, clean and efficient care to our children ages 0-2.
- To work with screened volunteers from the congregation who will assist with child care.
- Ministry responsibilities include playing with the children or directing their play, reading to them, praying with children, exhibiting patience and love and relating the events of the day to the lesson and theme in words the child can understand.
- Responsible for age-appropriate care which includes: feeding, maintaining a safe environment, holding, sitting with, and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, crafts and play.
- Report to the Minister of Youth, who will conduct job performance appraisals annually.
- Notify the Minister of Youth of any issues with children, volunteers, or parents/guardians or any maintenance and cleaning issues and supplies needed in a timely manner
- Maintain sign in/sign out.
- Arrive 30 minutes prior to nursery opening.
- Greet children when they arrive in the nursery and ensure that contact information is on file for each child.
- Polite, friendly and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers.
- Stay until all children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s contact information.
- Straighten child care space and maintain clean, inviting space
- Communicate effectively and appropriately at all levels including children, parents, volunteers and church staff.
- Uphold all safety standards.
- Understand and implement Universal precautions for bodily fluids.
- Be available to work holidays that fall on Sunday and may be asked to work additional hours during special events, i.e. Holy Week or Christmas Eve.
- If no children ages 0-3 are present, assist the Coordinator of Children’s Involvement with the older children as needed.
- Communicate in advance, by phone to the Minister of Youth any absences. Planned absences must be given two weeks ahead of time.
- In the case of last-minute illness, they must contact supervisor by phone 1 hour prior to shift so a replacement or volunteer may be found.

To create a cooperative working environment, we will:
- Fund CPR training renewal fees.
- Provide Mandated Reporting Training and other church safe trainings
- Provide an appropriately furnished child care space including table and chairs, cribs, changing area, toys and supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Experienced in the care of children 0-2 years of age with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities/characteristics.
- 20 years of age or older.
- Willing to submit to a background check (DOJ).
- Willing to follow any masking requirements held by the church or state and be willing to mask as needed to protect unvaccinated children.
- Must present the results of a current (within one year) Tuberculin test and current immunizations, including Hepatitis A & B, and COVID.
- Must have current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) CPR training/certification for infants and children, or be willing to complete a Pediatric CPR course.
- Must be able to physically engage with children and infants - sitting on the floor, walking around with infants to soothe, and similar actions involved in caring for infants and children.
- Must be able to lift at least 30lbs.
- Must be willing to undergo Child Abuse Mandated Reporting Training
- Complete and pass a DOJ Background Check and undergo Fingerprinting
- At least 2 years professional experience working with multiple children of varying ages
- Organizational skills
- Self-directed and responsible
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Punctuality and professionalism
Other Requirements
This position is one of the principal “faces of the church” to the congregation and the public and requires a friendly person who can communicate with parents/guardians and provide a safe and clean child care space for infants and young children.
