First Congregational United Church of Christ in Manhattan, KS seeks a part-time Childcare Attendant, approximately 2-3 hours per week on 2-4 Sundays a month. QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred:
Experience working with young children and infants in a church setting
Up-to-date First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification
High school graduate or equivalent
Completed coursework in early childhood education or human development
Required:
Experience providing care for infants and young children
enjoy working with and encouraging young children
punctual and reliable
Able to comply with First Congregational Safe Conduct policies, including completing a background and reference check
Willingness to acquire/update First Aid and CPR certification as needed (cost of training will be covered by the church)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Arrive by 9:15 on Sunday mornings (10:15 over summer months) to ready the Nursery or classroom, and remain until all children have been picked up by their parents and the room is cleaned up. In the rare event that no children are present, the Childcare Attendant is expected to tend to the needs of the room (cleaning, organizing, assessing the status of toys, etc.)
Assist with children’s Sunday School or other children’s programs as requested under the guidance of staff or volunteer leaders.
We will occasionally need childcare at times outside of Sunday mornings. As these opportunities arise, the Director of Christian Education will ask if you are interested in working these extra events.
Welcome children and parents.
Maintain appropriate informational forms about children.
Engage children in activities and keep children comfortable and safe.
Change diapers and assist with toileting as needed.
Abide by Safe Conduct protocols at all times
Children's actions will be guided by positive reinforcement and redirection. Our Director of CE and Pastor are available to help provide additional support and tools for discipline, as needed.
Clean and straighten the room after all children are gone.
Work with other staff to create a monthly schedule and arrange for substitutes when necessary.
Notify Director of Christian Education as soon as possible in case of illness, personal emergency, or request for unpaid vacation, per attendance policy
Complete and turn in monthly time sheet.
Assure toys are for proper ages and in good repair.
Create and maintain an organization plan for toys.
Clean and sanitize room, toys, and dishes as needed.
Check supplies and notify Director of Christian Education of needs.
Maintain communication with supervisor regarding Nursery concerns/issues.
Remain in compliance with any health and safety requirements made by the Church Cabinet or Board of Christian Education
