JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Phlebotomist II obtains and prepares specimens for analysis, is trained in Paternity Collections, processes Tissue, PAP, Cytology and blood/swab specimens, etc., for various reference laboratories, enters/batches reference lab orders, prints reports as assigned, answers/routes phone calls, monitors the pneumatic tube system, sorts/files faxes/orders/papers and receives specimens from outreach clinics.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Ability to competently complete on-the-job training provided within the department.
- A minimum of 1 year of previous health care experience in a direct patient care related role. Prior lab experience preferred.
- Certification as a nursing assistant is preferred not required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Code BLS required. New employees certify within three (3) months after hire date.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Basic clerical skills.
- Ability to learn phlebotomy skills and perform phlebotomy procedures competently.
- Ability to communicate with tact and professionalism.
- Flexibility for shift rotation within the department.
