First District Association is a dairy cooperative that manufactures wholesome dairy products from high quality milk supplied from our family farms located in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The Maintenance Technician position provides preventative, predictive, reactive, and emergency internal maintenance customer service in a safe, efficient and professional manner, with the ability to respond to unplanned breakdowns with a sense of urgency and demonstrate proficient troubleshooting techniques throughout all areas of First District Association.
Position Responsibility:
- Ability to safely work with mechanical, compressed air, steam, hydraulics, pneumatics, refrigeration, water and basic electrical systems including (but not limited to) motors, sanitary and steam valves, solenoids, pumps, refrigeration valves, gearboxes, compressors and other required general equipment in order to perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot failed equipment.
- Manage work orders through the daily requirements of the computer maintenance management system (CMMS) and complete them within the specified time requirements.
- Perform general maintenance with demonstrated basic understanding of the refrigeration system and associated components.
- Follow and be compliant to requirements regarding safe work habits and identify and correct safety hazards in a timely manner; must be a safety champion.
- Provide professional internal customer service to all areas of the facility and grounds.
- Attend mechanical skill classes and training to be prepared to handle daily maintenance tasks.
- Carry and use the company provided cell phone to enhance communications on-site.
- Must be able to be on call and respond in person to call-ins within 30 minutes.
- Required to report any food safety or quality issues to supervisor or quality department.
- Must wear all required PPE including masks, respirators, harnesses, eye wear, etc. to perform any duties according to all company safety programs including LOTO, confined space, forklift & scissor lift safety, elevated work and fall protection.
- Will be assigned other duties as needed.
- May be required to furnish own basic hand tools.
- May be assigned night shifts, scheduled weekends and overtime as needed.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with all employees and supervisors.
- Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Must be able to work independently and have deductive problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated team player with obvious enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work
- Self-starter dedicated to continuous quality improvement.
- Ability to multi-task and has effective time management skills.
- Physically able to climb stairs, walking, standing for long periods of time; may also work in hot and cold conditions.
- Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs; additional heavy lifting may be required at times.
Candidates must successfully complete a drug screen, background check and fitness for duty, prior to hire.
