Environmental Specialist – Mid Level
NY/NJ Metro Region
First Environment, a nationally recognized multidisciplinary environmental engineering and consulting firm, is seeking a mid-level environmental specialist to support our headquarters office in Butler, NJ. This position will be partly remote with a focus on the New York/New Jersey metro region.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in relevant industry groups and professional organizations to build network and continue education and training
- Provide project support on a variety of environmental engineering and consulting projects, which may include: regulatory compliance support; field soil/groundwater sampling, environmental permitting and writing environmental reports (i.e., Phase I/II, PA/RI/RAR; data management;, field investigation and oversight assignments.
- Support preparation of project deliverables to clients and other relevant stakeholders
- Communicate directly with clients across various industries, which may include: state and local governments, manufacturing, renewable energy, higher education, chemical/pharmaceutical, law firms, federal agencies, transportation, and more
- Complete assignments in a timely fashion
- Work with considerable independence, initiative, and discretion under general direction
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates may possess the following credentials:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental or science field, engineering, public policy, or a related field
- 4-9 years of experience
- Able to work effectively independently (i.e., self-starter, self-motivated), manage multiple responsibilities, and work with agility across those responsibilities
- Passionate about environmental issues
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Committed to developing functional knowledge of specialized areas, including terminology and techniques relating to various environmental programs
- Willingness to learn various state and local regulations pertaining to environmental media, as well as industry standards and best practices
- Ability to learn a variety of skills and work on projects across multiple teams
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
Additional qualifications may include any of the following (though not required):
- Quantitative analytical skills
- General environmental consulting experience
- Familiarity with concepts in any of the following areas: environmental regulations; environmental remediation; health and safety; management systems; low-carbon, renewable, and alternative fuel technologies; greenhouse gas accounting; climate science; life cycle assessment; environmental, social, and governance (ESG)
