About Us

First Evangelical Lutheran Church and School is a welcoming and faith-centered congregation committed to serving our community. We are looking for a dedicated and organized Church Secretary to manage administrative tasks and support the church office, congregation, and affiliated groups.

Position Overview

The Church Secretary plays a key role in the daily operations of the church, ensuring efficient communication, organization, and coordination of administrative tasks. This individual will manage office operations, provide support to staff and church leaders, and oversee essential records and scheduling.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative & Office Support

  • Serve as the primary receptionist, answering phone calls and assisting visitors.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence.
  • Maintain the church calendar, coordinating events, rentals, and scheduling conflicts.
  • Record and update church attendance and membership databases.
  • Prepare documents for baptisms, confirmations, marriages, and funerals.
  • Serve as an on-call liaison between the funeral home, church, and pastors.
  • Generate and distribute schedules and reports for volunteers and committees.
  • Assist staff, boards, and committees with special projects and event planning.

Communication & Publications

  • Prepare, print, and distribute weekly bulletins, worship materials, newsletters, and calendars.
  • Submit announcements to the local newspaper and other publications.
  • Update and maintain the church website and social media accounts.
  • Proofread and format board minutes before distribution.

Financial & Business Support

  • Coordinate and schedule church event rentals, ensuring proper fee collection.
  • Assist the Business Manager with financial reports, meeting agendas, and records.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Friendly, professional, and dependable with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Discretion and confidentiality in all church-related matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and experience with Shepherd’s Staff, WordPress, and social media platforms.
  • Experience with IT and troubleshooting a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous administrative, office management, or church secretary experience is a plus.
  • Experience managing volunteers, events, or scheduling.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
