Universal Banker

A Universal Banker plays a key role in delivering exceptional customer service by performing both teller and personal banker duties. This position is responsible for acquiring, managing, and retaining meaningful relationships through a sales and service approach, while supporting the branch manager/loan officer with loan processing. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to handle various banking transactions efficiently.

Essential Job Functions

Customer Service & Relationship Building

  • Serve as the first point of contact for customers providing friendly, professional, and personalized service.
  • Assist customers in person and by phone with account inquiries, including loans and general banking needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships to enhance loyalty and satisfaction.
  • Educate customers on the benefits of bank products and services to meet their financial needs.
  • Participate in promotional activities to grow the branch’s customer base.

Banking Transactions

  • Process routine banking transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, cash checking, and loan payments.
  • Open and manage deposit accounts, including checking, savings, CDs, and consumer loan accounts.

Loan Support & Processing

  • Assist loan officers with collecting and reviewing loan applications and supporting documents.
  • Communicate with clients to gather necessary financial information and answer inquiries.
  • Order and review credit reports, appraisals, and title work.
  • Ensure all loan documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with regulations.
  • Input loan details into the loan origination system and track application progress.
  • Coordinate with underwriters to facilitate loan approval.
  • Follow up on outstanding documents with customers and third parties.
  • Maintain detailed records of customer interactions and loan statuses.
  • Assist in reviewing loan disclosures and closing documents.
  • Assist the loan officer in tracking and processing residential construction loan draws for customers.
  • Support loan funding, escrow account monitoring, and document processing.
  • Order appraisals and title work as needed.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Adhere to all bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance in loan documentation and regulatory reporting.
  • Work closely with internal teams and vendors to maintain efficient loan operations.
  • Safeguard customer information and prevent fraudulent activities.
  • Maintain and balance cash drawers and financial records accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in retail banking, customer service, or sales preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with customers.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and banking software.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in financial transactions.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to handle challenging situations effectively.
