Scope/Contacts

Performs fraud investigations and problem resolutions with some supervision. Conducts internal or external fraud investigations and files regulatory reports according to legal requirements. Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled. Increases fraud awareness among staff, stakeholders, and communities.

Essential Functions

  • Process alerts and cases and assist team with in-depth investigations
  • Investigate and research cases and potentially suspicious situations; efficiently arrive at sound risk-based conclusions, share resources with team to expand knowledge and expertise.
  • Clearly document and support judgments, decisions and rationale, which will necessitate strong writing skills and the ability to maintain files and records in accordance with business until standards
  • Prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) in accordance with FinCEN fraud reporting
  • Maintain tracking logs and provide management reporting
  • Support team member’s investigative efforts
  • Responsible for fraud and suspicious activity monitoring, disposition of case investigations, and accurate and timely SAR preparations
  • Actively participate in the Customer Service First program and support the values of the organization and follow established policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, criminal justice, or related discipline or equivalent work experience in financial institution investigation field or law enforcement
    • OR Minimum of three years of previous experience in the banking industry
  • Knowledge of banking products, services, systems and workflows, transaction processing applicable regulations, especially the Bank Secrecy Act with regards to fraud reporting
  • Current Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and/or the Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification is a plus.
Skills

  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization
  • Excellent investigative and interviewing techniques; exhibit diplomacy in communication while interacting appropriately with staff, management, clients, and external parties
  • Understanding of general Mathematics and Accounting principals
  • Must be able to assess any given situation and bring to a successful resolution
  • Ability to maintain utmost confidentially of accounts and/or employees under investigation
  • Must be experienced in effective use of one or more core banking deposit and new account software
  • Must have satisfactory computer and spreadsheet skills
  • Follow established policies and procedures.
