We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team in Cary, NC.

The Staff Accountant role is a FULL-TIME, HYBRID role with the expectation to work in-office, in our Cary HQ building, at least 1-2 days per week, after a suitable training period.

SUMMARY :

This position is primarily responsible for assisting in maintaining reliable accounting information on income, expenses, assets, liabilities, capital and fulfilling regulatory and financial reporting requirements by performing the following duties personally or though subordinates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs general ledger accounting, including reconciliations, research, and maintenance.
  • Posts and balances institution’s bank accounts on a daily basis
  • Performs monthly AIRES reconciliations
  • Reviews and reconciles vault paperwork
  • Completes monthly and quarterly assignments related to board packets and NCUA call report.
  • Prepares lease accounting reconciliations and schedule
  • Processes expense reports
  • Maintains complex computer-based analyses and reports of financial institution accounting records.
  • Manages capitalized asset schedules
  • Prepares property tax forms.
  • Assists with annual budget process
  • Remits federal tax deposits (excluding employee payroll withholdings).
  • Maintains the institution's insurance accounts to meet regulatory minimums.
  • Provides general support to other areas of the institution as necessary.
  • Creates ad-hoc reports based on manager’s directive.

ACCOUNTABILITY :

  • Ensures all processes are performed under the appropriate level of control and reports irregularities to management.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • First Flight non-accounting staff : Daily contact to verify, perform, and research transactional accounting.
  • Outside vendors : As needed contact with regards to variance research.
  • Investment firm / other financial institution staff : Weekly contact to purchase, research, or sell investments.
  • Federal agencies or regulators : Quarterly contact regarding audits or research topics.
  • QUALIFICATIONS :

    EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :

    Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Accounting, Business, Finance or related. At least three years related experience and / or training or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS :

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY :

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    COMPUTER SKILLS :

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Design software; Development software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

  • CPA candidate preferred
