Summary
Commercial Manager III is a senior management position for the Centralized Commercial Lending (CCL) team. Manager will be responsible for overseeing the evaluation, underwriting and decisioning of new money conventional and SBA loan applications. The Manager ensures staff provides analytical support including an independent analysis of the creditworthiness of customers and prospects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and/or supervise CCL Underwriters that produce comprehensive credit analyses of commercial relationships that facilitates the credit approval process, including SBA applications.
- Review and approve new money applications for CCL and SBA.
- Ensure proper staffing levels and reporting regarding the quality of product, quantity of product, turn-around times, satisfactory portfolio management duties.
- Provide underwriting staff with production goals (SLAs) and monitor monthly.
- Participate in new opportunity deal team calls for CCL and SBA.
- Travel as needed to various markets to ensure good communication between CCL Team and Market Leaders.
- Continually work with CCL Directors and other CCL Team Leads to ensure consistency of policy, procedures, application, and credit analysis.
- Coach and mentor underwriting staff, provide guidance and direction on underwriting decisions, and offer expertise in financial and industry analysis, along with a strong knowledge of FH Credit Culture, FH Commercial Loan Policy and CCL Policy, and CCL Loan Processes.
- Work with Credit Assurance, Audit, and Examiners as needed and upon request.
- Review and Prepare Loss Given Default and Probability of Default models for opportunities
- Ensure accurate reflection of lending matrix authority
- Ensure proper loan coding
- Ensure recognition of Policy Exceptions.
- Finalize credit package with any conditions precedent as needed to ensure Loan Closing has a complete approval package.
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating designated units or certain personnel in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; providing pay change recommendations; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Additionally, the qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required in this position:
- Bachelor (4-year college) degree and 15 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience with some level of SBA experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Training/Systems
- Fundamental understanding of commercial credit underwriting for conventional and SBA loans.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Strong MS Office skills, especially with Excel.
- Knowledge of Moody’s CreditLens preferred
- Knowledge of nCino preferred.
- Ability to interact with all levels of clients, staff and management.
- Ability to offer appropriate resolutions to mitigate risk
- Ability to think independently and as team player
- Must be organized and detail oriented with the ability to multitask.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
