About the Position:

As the Vice President, SBA Credit Manager, you will provide general monitoring activities, administrative support and oversight to the bank’s SBA 7(a) loan portfolio in an effort to prudently manage ongoing risk. You will work closely with the Vice President, Senior Credit Officer in determining the credit underwriting standards, policies and procedures implemented in determining the acceptable credit standards of potential SBA borrowers. You will also be responsible for oversight and guidance to the SBA Loan Underwriting team. In addition, you may have lending authority at the discretion of the approval of the Vice President, Senior Credit Officer and President of the bank.

What You Will Do:

  • Assignment of eligible loan opportunities that are ready for SBA loan underwriting
  • Serve as the first point of contact for the SBA loan underwriting team with satisfying all requirements of the Bank or the SBA
  • Answer questions and evaluate loans for proper structuring in order to maximize repayment
  • Assist BDO’s with pre-screening of new loan opportunities for SBA eligibility to receive government guaranteed financing
  • Review credit proposals prior to submission to the Senior Credit Officer SBA to verify that they are presented in concise, consistent, organized fashion, and fully supported with proper justification
  • Monitor and report on loan approval times and potential bottlenecks
  • Complete annual performance evaluations of the SBA loan underwriting team
  • Maintain current knowledge of SBA SOP and interpretations
  • Decision SBA loans within an approved lending authority
  • Willingness to discuss and provide input with the Senior Credit Officer SBA on complex and unusual situations that may arise with individual loans
  • Assist in preparing for periodic portfolio reviews conducted by regulatory agencies, loan review and internal audit
  • Prepare draft responses to audits, reviews and regulatory exam reports as requested
  • Maintain open lines of communications with the BDOs, members of the SBA closing process and all areas of the SBA operations functions
  • Participate in various management and functional area teams to improve the processes of the SBA function and the bank in general
  • Review various management reports as directed
  • May be requested to collect, spread, analyze and evaluate financial and related data to determine credit worthiness of prospective or existing borrowers to assist the SBA underwriting team, if needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum of seven years of relevant SBA lending, portfolio management and/or commercial credit experience required, or minimum five years of SBA underwriting experience within a fast-paced SBA 7(a) lending program.
  • Proven experience in leading, training or providing guidance to junior professionals in a fast-paced work environment
  • Full knowledge of current SBA SOP.
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex transactions.
  • Ability to understand and analyze both historic and projected financial statements.
  • Capability of working effectively under limited supervision.
  • Ability to have complex conversations with potential business owners about prospective deals to reach consensus and conclusion.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and persuade as needed.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Thorough understanding of financial statement preparation and content.
  • Strong PC, Internet and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that may require occasional work beyond normal working hours.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Professional office setting.
  • Primarily sedentary position requiring long periods of time working at a computer.
  • Must be able to move throughout the office and buildings to obtain or relay information.
