What are the responsibilities and job description for the Jr High/MIddle School Youth Director position at First Lutheran Church?
Jr. High/Middle School Youth Director
(grades 7-8)
A. Overall responsibility for creating, implementing and leading a comprehensive year-round program for jr. high youth.
B. Proactive visitation and presence in kid’s lives outside of the church and its programs. Strong weekly presence at kid’s athletic, music, theater etc. events. Initiate one-on-one outings with kids.
C. Assist pastors and youth director in all aspects of the Confirmation ministry.
D. Develop seasonal calendars of events, trips, camps, bible studies, and opportunities for middle school youth. Attend summer Castaway Camp as planned by CYF Team.
E. Recruit, train and mentor volunteer ministry teams to carry out ministries.
F. Be fiscally responsible for all trips, programs and events planned.
(grades 5-6)
A. Overall responsibility for creating, implementing and leading a comprehensive year-round program for 5th and 6th Grade youth.
B. Proactive visitation and presence in kid’s lives outside of the church and its programs. Strong weekly presence at kid’s athletic, music, theater etc. events.
C. Be the lead teacher/communicator for Wednesday Night 56’ers.
D. Develop a year-round program of events and activities that would surround and enhance the Wednesday school ministry. Trips, Events, programs, Bible studies etc.
E. Assist with First Communion Instruction Day. (Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday)
F. Recruit, train and mentor volunteer ministry teams to carry out 56’ers ministries.
A. Assist youth director when needed for shared leadership on variety of events, programs, retreats, trips etc.
1. A devoted Christian who is continually seeking to grow in their Christian Faith Journey.
2. Understands, demonstrates and implements “Relational Style” ministry.
3. High energy, outgoing and enthusiastic personality.
4. Excellent communication and relational skills with kids of all ages.
5. Ability to positively interact with, recruit and train adult volunteers and parents.
6. Demonstrated teamwork approach to ministry.
7. Flexibility, sense of humor
8. Excellent one-on-one, pro-active, go-to style of ministry.
9. Someone who is committed to and intentional about their daily devotional/prayer life.
Accountability
1. Will be directly accountable to the CYF Pastor
2. Will meet with CYF Pastor for annual review.
3. Attend Weekly CYF meetings and Monthly Staff Meetings
A. Will attend at least one major continuing education event, conference, retreat, seminar etc per year.
B. Will intentionally set aside daily/weekly personal devotional /quiet times.
A. Will be regular in worship attendance and highly visible on Sunday, building relationships, promoting events, worshiping with kids etc.
