What are the responsibilities and job description for the Secretary position at First Methodist Church of Azle?
The Secretary is a part-time at will position and reports to the Senior Pastor (Typically works 20-24 hours per week.)
We are looking for a committed follower of Christ who is passionate about managing all aspects of the church office. The Secretary will keep a well-balanced approach of personal production and working with staff, volunteers and guests to insure the necessary administrative tasks are completed in a timely manner. This individual must be able to effectively interact as a team member with our current staff, members, volunteers and guests as we continue to be a dynamic presence for Christ.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND/WORK EXPERIENCE
1. High School Diploma or equivalent. Related college or technical training is a plus.
2. Have related experience in a church or business environment preferred.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
4. Ability to demonstrate communications skills and competencies during interview process.
5. Experience working with compensated staff and volunteers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. In coordination with the staff and volunteers, facilitates the day to day administration of the church office.
2. Provides a friendly, helpful presence to all who call or enter the church office with the assistance of volunteer receptionists.
3. Manages the church general email account, forwarding emails for other Staff and responding to general inquiries.
4. Maintains a comprehensive up-to-date church calendar, including both church and outside events, room assignments, and coordinating needs of outside events.
5. Gather prayer needs from various sources, maintaining confidentiality of individuals and respecting wishes of those on list regarding publication on the Weekly Prayer Concerns.
6. Ensures the timely production of the worship bulletins; weekly prayer list; weekly news; monthly newsletter; slide show for atrium, worship, and online worship display; and other communications as necessary for disseminating information to congregants.
7. Communicates with online media such as Realm, Constant Contact, website, and social media.
8. Manage PBX switchboard for phone system.
9. Attend weekly Staff meetings with master calendar.
10. Perform other tasks assigned by the Senior Pastor.

2. Has the ability to work on special projects with all ministry areas.
3. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
4. Displays excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain calendars, bulletins, newsletters, websites and social media.
5. Opens and closes the office when on duty.
6. Manages the office telephone and alarm systems.
7. Although specific church membership is not a requirement, exhibits the desire and ability to uphold the ethical standards of the Church as represented in the Scriptures.
8. Demonstrates a positive and supportive attitude that reflects the love of Christ and nurtures their own spiritual growth as a Christian leader.

All new hires are on a 90 day probationary period.
