Director of Children’s Ministries
Full Time: Approx. 40 hours per week; participating in meetings/training: 10 hours a month.
About the role:
First Methodist Church is seeking a passionate, creative, and highly motivated Full-Time Director of Children’s Ministries (DCM) to lead and nurture our ministry to children, from birth through grade five. The DCM will work closely with church leadership and volunteers to create a vibrant, safe, and engaging environment where children grow in faith and feel welcomed as part of the greater church community.

What you will do:
1. Build and oversee a Children’s Ministry team of staff and volunteers.
2. Develop a comprehensive Children’s Ministry recruitment strategy to recruit, train, and maintain volunteers for all areas of children’s ministry.
3. Give volunteers everything they need to minister effectively to children. (This involves providing resources, training, and encouragement)
4. Develop, update, and ensure adherence to our Ministry Safe Child Protection Policy and oversee the training for Ministry Safe.
5. Oversee check-in processes for related ministry environments.
6. Work as a team to develop Children’s Ministry discipleship goals, direction, mission and vision in line with the purpose and mission of First Methodist Church.
7. Give direct oversight to Children’s Church, Mid-Week Children’s Ministries, and new children’s ministry development.
8. Give direct oversight to all other areas of Children’s ministry (special events, ordering materials, managing schedules, recruiting volunteers, etc.)
9. Supervise any church-wide special events that include a children’s program (i.e. Church wide evangelism efforts, Large Easter services/plans etc…)
10. Develop programs designed for evangelism encompassing our children’s events (i.e.VBS, etc…). Direct leadership of these ministries may be provided by volunteers under the DCM’s supervision.
11. Work with the church staff to create systems and to track and manage children, families and volunteers associated with Children’s ministry.
12. Maintain Children’s Ministry resources and storage.
13. Communicate regularly with parents/volunteers regarding schedules, events, changes.
14. Implement safety and security procedures for the Children’s Ministry program as a whole, including fire/hazard policies and drills, and security measures.
15. Work with ministry leaders to coordinate schedules, room use, communication, etc.
16. Provide oversight and management of the Children’s Ministry budget areas.
17. Attend Staff Meetings.
18. Supervise the work of the Child Care Coordinator and our nursery ministry.
19. Other duties/functions assigned by the Directing Pastor.
