We are actively staffing for a Welding Field Engineer for one of our Oil & Gas clients located in the Corpus Christi, TX area.

Pay Rate: $50-$57/hr
Job Summary:
The Welding Field Engineer will report directly to the Lead Welding Field Engineer and play a key role in supporting the site welding program and direct hire activities for Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and Pre/Post-Welding Heat Treatment (PWHT). This position requires flexibility with work hours, including night shifts, split shifts, or day shifts as needed. Physical demands include field inspections, extensive walking on construction sites in varying conditions (high heat, humidity, confined spaces, and elevated platforms), ladder and scaffolding climbing, and occasional lifting. Protective equipment (PPE) such as harnesses or life vests will be required based on tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with inspections using ITP and engineering drawings.
- Provide specialized welding and inspection support to ensure compliance with code and company procedures outlined in the welding control manual.
- Oversee the management and distribution of weld filler materials to ensure compliance with company and code standards.
- Help coordinate NDE activities with construction and lead field welding engineers to support project timelines.
- Monitor welding qualifications, ensuring high standards for welder testing and hiring.
- Maintain welder qualifications and certification stamps.
- Willing to work extended hours or night shifts to meet project needs.
- Champion safety and take accountability for site health, safety, and environmental programs.
- Offer technical guidance on Pre/PWHT, Welding, and NDE to the Lead Welding Field Engineer, superintendents, and craft teams.
- Manage and support the Project Field Welder Testing program.
- Implement the project’s ES&H and quality control programs.
- Ensure proper calibration of Pre/PWHT equipment.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of corporate Pre/PWHT Procedures and welding standards.
- Continuously inspect and document welding, NDE, and Pre/PWHT activities.
- Prepare material requisitions and oversee inventory management for Pre/PWHT equipment and materials.
- Coordinate training and work activities for direct hire Pre/PWHT personnel.
- Ensure adherence to quality requirements while supporting project cost and schedule goals.
- Verify materials, workmanship, and compliance with codes and specifications.
- Collaborate with lead welding engineers for task direction.
- Oversee subcontractor welding and NDE work, including daily report preparation.
- Provide troubleshooting support for engineering design issues.
- Mentor lower-level welding engineers to ensure alignment with project and company goals.
- Maintain a weld inspection tracking system using company-specific tools.
- Interface with the Lead Welding Engineer to receive direction on assigned tasks.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 2-5 years of relevant experience, or 6-9 years of experience in a related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in direct hire welding and NDE, especially within LNG projects.
- NDE certifications in PT, MT, and LT (Vac Box).
- Strong knowledge of AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM, and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards.
- Extensive experience in heavy industrial construction, particularly in direct hire projects.
- Advanced certifications in welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW.
- Intermediate knowledge of preheat/post-weld heat treatment for equipment and consumables.
- Understanding of engineering and construction methods acquired through experience or training.
- Proven ability to motivate and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations.
- Experience working on LNG construction projects, especially along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
- Expertise in LNG welding applications, methods, and NDE practices.
- Familiarity with company work processes and procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of piping design drawings/specifications and project management tools.
- Certification eligibility for NDE Level II Visual Examination.
- Familiarity with company standard applications such as Unifier, Aconex, DSCS, and other tools used for project automation.
