First Presbyterian Church of Belmont, North Carolina is a multigenerational church and a congregation of the Presbyterian Church USA.
Our Youth Ministry consists of Middle School (6th-8th grade) and High School (9th-12th grade) students. At FPC Belmont, we encourage our youth to grow in their relationship with Christ by plugging into our Youth Ministry Program where they connect with others their age and build lifelong friendships. Together these students are supported and loved in the family of faith, and have many opportunities to serve with one another.
General Descriptions:
The Youth Ministry Director (YMD) under the direction of the Associate Pastor is a full-time Professional Staff employee responsible for leading the middle school and high school youth of the church into a relationship with Jesus Christ. The YMD will assist the members of the congregation in the fulfillment of the church’s Mission and Vision Statements within the area of Youth Ministry by strengthening and initiating programs that will allow young people to grow in their spiritual development. This person will possess the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality in all areas of the church’s life.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and Nurture Youth in Faith & Service – Provide leadership, mentorship, and role modeling for youth, encouraging their spiritual growth through worship, Bible study, Sunday School, Sunday night youth, and other weekly programs. Build relationships with the youth by being present in their lives through school visits, extracurricular events, and during times of need. Provide leadership for confirmands, mentors, and parents both in and beyond the classroom.
Organize & Oversee Youth Programs – Create and plan a calendar for youth ministry activities; including Sunday School, weekly gatherings, mission trips, and special events.
Support & Coordinate Youth Ministry Programs – Attend Youth Ministry Committee meetings, recruit and equip volunteers for youth programs.
Manage Ministry Resources – Help develop and oversee the Youth Ministry budget in alignment with the Session guidelines to ensure program funding. Select curriculums aligned with our Presbyterian Church USA Reformed tradition.
Collaborate and Coordinate with Church Staff - Attend church staff meetings.
Qualifications:
The ideal YMD will embrace Christian faith and discipleship. The individual will have a vision for a vibrant Youth Ministry and a demonstrated ability to work alongside youth, families and teams of volunteers. He or she should have sufficient written and verbal communication skills and computer/internet competency.
A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Christian Education or related field and 2 or more years of relevant work experience.
