JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides part-time custodial support to maintain the First Presbyterian Church (Church) building and grounds to have an attractive and safe environment in which to conduct the various Church and community related activities approved by the Session.

The Church adheres to the policy of employment at-will which permits the Church or you, as the employee, to end the employment relationship at any time, for any reason, with or without cause or notice.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains Church building and grounds so as to present a clean and safe environment for worship and community activities. This includes, but is not limited to the following as directed by the Pastor and the Building and Grounds Committee of the Session:
- Informs the Pastor of any mechanical, plumbing, or repair work that will require an outside vendor to correct. Coordinates these repairs with the Building and Grounds Committee moderator.
- Has the right of first refusal to work any special worship and community activities conducted at the Church. (See wedding and funeral policy.)
- Orders and maintains an adequate supply of cleaning and maintenance products. Coordinates with the Building and Grounds Committee for funding approval level throughout the calendar year.
- Coordinates with the Pastor to submit each August the next year’s budget request for cleaning and maintenance supplies to the Building and Grounds Committee.
- Coordinates with Choir Director on the care, maintenance and cleaning of pipe organ and grand piano.
- Establishes a daily, weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly work schedule that is reviewed annually
Relationship
- The Custodian works directly for the Pastor, and the Building and Grounds Committee as necessary.
Work Hours
- It is expected that the custodian maintain a schedule of at least 4 days during the work week (M-F) with time also on Saturday/Sunday. The needs of these hours may change based on events happening at the church. Typically this has been M-Thursday from 8 am-12pm and Sunday from 8am-9am, 12pm-2pm. We are willing to discuss the particular schedule in the interview process and can revisit as needs arise.
- Additional compensated hours may be requested. The Custodian may be requested to be at the church during other times when there is a scheduled event in the Church. Any additional hours will be taken as compensatory time within the pay period that the additional hours occurred, or if workloads dictate and the additional hours is in addition to the scheduled time required, at the discretion of the Pastor, the additional hours will be paid at the agreed upon hourly rate.
- The Custodian has right of first refusal for additional hours should they become available. The Custodian has the option to work those hours or coordinates with designated volunteers to ensure those hours are covered.
Evaluation
- Evaluations will be rendered by the Pastor at least annually per the Employee Handbook.

Compensation
- The part-time Custodian is an hourly non-exempt employee with compensation set by the Personnel Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-A high school diploma or equivalent.
-Minimum one-year experience as a custodian preferred.
-Understanding of appropriate use of cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials.
-Strong communications skills.
-Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
-Ability to work unsupervised to successfully compete all tasks.
