Summary
First Presbyterian is an inclusive, urban city church in the center of Uptown Charlotte. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we bring our diverse social and theological perspectives to be woven together in a caring community of believers for Christ in the heart of Charlotte.
The assistant food services manager will be our number 2 cook, helping our food service manager serve food daily to our child development center and assisting with prep and cooking for all church meals throughout the year. The work schedule will consist of on-site work Monday – Friday from 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM plus occasional overtime.
Responsibilities
Schools - Oversight and responsibility of all meals served in the school on a daily basis:
- Assisting in planning and cooking daily meals for the child development center
- Provide hot breakfast, lunch, and snack Monday through Friday
- Providing food for students with allergies
- Assist in creation of weekly/monthly menu
- Provide meal for CDC staff for staff meetings (8-10 per year)
Church - Oversight and responsibility for internal church meals:
- Helping cook weekly Wednesday night choir dinners
- Assist in providing food for church events
- Assist in providing meals from time to time for internal groups within the church
- Assist with setups and presentations for weddings and funerals
Kitchen Management - Management of all aspects of the kitchen.
- Maintaining kitchen equipment maintenance program
- Maintaining a kitchen cleaning program
- Passing all health inspections
- Maintaining fridges and freezer foods for expirations dates
Qualifications & Required skills
- ServSafe certification a must
- Experience in institutional food services
- Experience in working with children’s food programs
- Knowledge of the USDA food requirements for childcare centers
- Exceptional interpersonal/people skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances quickly and decisively
- Ability to build and maintain a cooperative team spirit with staff and volunteers
Preferred Experience
- Experience cooking for groups of 100 people
Preferred Education/Training
- Culinary degree preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds
- Ability to operate computer including keyboard and monitor, telephone and other office equipment
- Ability to move freely in and out of various church settings
- Ability to use church kitchen equipment
