What are the responsibilities and job description for the Organist and/or Pianist position at First Presbyterian Church Tifton, GA?
Position: The position is part-time (2 hours per week) with flexible work hours determined in coordination with the Music Director.
Purpose: The purpose of the position is to play the organ and/or the piano for the music ministry of First Pres which includes worship, funerals, and special events for all age groups. The person serving in this position is to have a good rapport with children and adults and work diligently to help fulfill the Vision of First Pres - “Always Be Christ’s Disciples.”
Accountability: The position is to serve the needs of the congregation, under the direction of the Pastor and Music Director, but is ultimately responsible to the Session. The Session is always available for consultation and will review the job description and salary annually thereafter.
Compensation: Salary is $100 per week.
Duties:
- Follow the direction of the Music Director in playing hymns and all musical presentations for First Pres services.
- Be available to play for special musical programs throughout the year (Valentines, Maundy Thursday, Easter, Children/Youth Sunday, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July, Back to School Bash, World Communion, Kirkin, Fall Harvest, Thanksgiving, Christmas Cantata or Madrigal Dinner, Children’s Christmas Musical, Christmas Eve, etc.).
- Arrange to rehearse for solos, duets, guest musicians, and instrumentalists, when needed.
- Help oversee the maintenance and tuning of the organ, pianos, handbells, and other instruments at First Pres.
- Be available to play for weddings and funerals, as needed (will be paid by families).
- Participate in monthly Staff meetings, annual Officer Retreats, and annual evaluation meetings, and be willing to do whatever it takes to promote the love of Christ through music at First Pres.
