Job Description
General Description: The teacher will share the responsibility with a team teacher for the general supervision and management of a class of 20 children between the ages of four and five. The hours of a classroom teacher are Monday-Thursday 7:30am-3:00pm and Friday 8am-12pm. ECCAT will work until 3:00pm on Fridays once per month. The KCS classroom teacher shall report to the First Presbyterian Church Preschool Director and the Kanawha County Schools Preschool Director.
Qualifications: The person selected for this position must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have achieved a Level II with WV State Training and Registry System (STARS). Certification must be reviewed and approved by the West Virginia Department of Education. He or she should be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, or have experience working with young children. This person should be knowledgeable about child development and early childhood education. He or she must be an empathetic and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.
Required by licensing: WVDE Collaborative Partnership Assistant Teacher Certification, Medical Exam, Criminal Background Check and Fingerprinting, Maltreatment Check, 2 Letters of Recommendation, Resume, Proof of Negative TB Test, On-line Pre-service and Child Abuse/Neglect Training, CPR Certification.
Additional Requirements: Drug testing on request, COVID19 vaccination
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
⬥ Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the school, Kanawha County Schools, and the standards of West Virginia licensing.
⬥ Implement Creative Curriculum to meet the needs of the individual child with concerns for his/her interests, development, talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
⬥ Develop an appreciation for the individual child in relationship to his cultural and socioeconomic background.
⬥ Respond to each child with dignity and respect.
⬥ Foster each child’s awareness of his/her role as an integral member of a group
⬥ Design an ordered arrangement, appearance, and learning environment and developmentally appropriate instruction under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director.
⬥ Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
⬥ Attend all staff meetings. Assist in planning and implementing staff trainings.
⬥ Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth.
⬥ Work with the Preschool Director to keep one’s own personnel file up to date.
⬥ Work with representatives and supports from Kanawha County Schools in assessment, trainings, planning, and implementation of Creative Curriculum.
⬥ Be a team player with the staff as a whole and as a partner with your team teacher.
⬥ Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members, especially your team teacher.
⬥ Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents.
⬥ Communicate concerns of parents as soon as possible to administration.
⬥ Assist in public-relations events sponsored by the school.
