What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at First Presbyterian Church?
First Presbyterian Church is looking for a responsible, self motivated person to maintain and protect our facility. The external and internal appearance of First Presbyterian Church's property is reflected by the diligence of its congregation to maintain it.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodial role focused on building upkeep. A keen eye for detail, and diligence in custodial maintenance.
Job Responsibilities
- Open and close the church facilities prior to services on Sunday, and for any special events such as Lent, Easter, Christmas, weddings or any scheduled church event.
- Keeps the building and property in clean and orderly condition.
- Performs routine maintenance activities.
- Performs heavy cleaning duties.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, or vacuum floors.
- Gathers and empties trash.
- Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities, kitchen, and kitchenettes.
- Restocks bathrooms, kitchens, classrooms with appropriate supplies.
- Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
- Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers.
- Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
- Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture.
- Manages inventory of cleaning supplies, and notifies the office manager when supplies are running low.
- Outdoor responsibilities of cleaning off the driveways, and sidewalks in inclement weather, or clearing debris (leaves, rocks, twigs etc.), and clearing out gutters.
- Notifies staff regarding the need for repairs, replacements.
- Maintain pleasant interaction with church members.
Qualifications / Skills
- Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours
- Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time.
- Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners.
- Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules
- Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at particular heights.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
