Purpose
The primary purpose of the Director of Children’s Ministries (DCM) is to build meaningful relationships with children and parents that cultivates a robust faith in Jesus Christ. In cooperation with the FPC Ruling Elder for Christian Education and Christian Education Administrative Assistant, this individual will oversee and bring creative enthusiasm to a program that nurtures and grows the children’s faith into a lifelong journey of following and serving God.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit and provide materials all teachers and volunteers
- Oversee and schedule nursery through 5th grade staff
- Plan monthly biblical themes and Sunday morning curriculum for the year
- Show financial responsibility in operating the Children’s Ministries budget by recommending to the Finance Committee a detailed annual budget for children's ministries and demonstrating fiscal accountability regarding all transactions
- Establish regular communication with parents and the greater community regarding Children’s Ministry activities through email (weekly and special events), take-home handouts, and coordinate with the Communications Director on in-house posters and social media.
- Provide a welcoming presence and build community among Nursery through 5th grade families
- When possible be available to teachers and families on Sunday mornings
- Plan and participate in special events throughout the year. For example: Fall Kickoff, ice cream socials, Bethlehem Marketplace, and Vacation Bible Camp.
- Along with other staff and volunteers, plan and participate in the Wednesday Ignite Program, 4:30-6:00, 3-year olds - 5th graders, during the school year
- Along with Senior Pastor, grow the children's knowledge of the Bible, their understanding of the sacraments, participate in baptism services, involve children in worship
- Provide Session a monthly summary of ministry, an overview of curriculum plan for program year (typically August or September), and attend monthly Session meetings when appropriate (Zoom is available)
- Be open to discovery and implement new ministry possibilities for Nursery through 5th grade families
- Other tasks as assigned
- Organizational Relationship and Supervision
- Accountable to Senior Pastor
- Work collegially as part of the staff to strategically fulfill the mission and vision of FPCB
- Manage Children and Family Ministries workers and volunteers
- Serve as the staff representative and lead to the Children and Family Ministries committee, and work with the Ruling Elder for Children and Family Ministries and Children and Family Ministries Assistant
- The Senior Pastor in consultation with Staff Relations Committee provides an evaluation of the DCM.
Qualifications/Requirement
- Demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and have experience working with young children in large group settings
- Knowledgeable in the use of social media and proficient with technology
- It is preferable if this individual could attend weekly staff meetings on Tuesdays from 10:30a.m. – 12:00p.m. (Zoom if available)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
