Position Description
First Presbyterian Church is seeking a half-time (20 hour) Minister of Pastoral Care to serve on our pastoral staff. The Minister of Pastoral Care (MPC) is called by Session and serves with the Pastor and Associate Pastor to enable the pastoral staff to provide comprehensive care to our congregation.
Duties
This position is focused on providing pastoral care through visitation to persons within and beyond our congregation who are hospitalized, ill, or facing transitions in life. In addition, the MPC:
· Develops and deploys a visitation team to help with the work.
· Coordinates the ministry of the Sacrament of Holy Communion for members unable to attend worship, with the assistance of the Elders of the church.
· Facilitates our older adult ministry (SALT) by helping to provide opportunities for spiritual growth through fellowship.
· Serves as a staff resource person to appropriate church committees.
· Organizes and officiates at funerals as requested and provides for after-care.
· Plans and leads worship services as assigned by the Pastor.
· Supports and facilitates the work of the Stephen Ministry, our lay-based spiritual caregiving ministry.
Requirements
· Received (or in the process of attaining) an M.Div. from an accredited school of theological education.
· An ordained minister or in the process of pursuing ordination through a Christian denomination.
· A Presbyterian (preferred) or knowledgeable about and supportive of the basic tenets of Reformed theology.
· Experience through congregational ministry or chaplaincy in providing pastoral care.
· Experience with the Stephen Ministry model of care through trained laypersons is preferred.
