What are the responsibilities and job description for the YOUTH & CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COORDINATOR position at First Presbyterian Church?
Purpose : To provide leadership for the church’s youth and family ministry in accordance with the Presbyterian Church USA theology.
Qualifications :
At least two years of post-secondary education
Demonstrated ability to be a positive role model for young people.
Schedule & Compensation :
Part-time 15- 20 hours per week
Sunday mornings are required during the program year from late August through mid May.
Flexible days, hours and work-from-home ability is available for remainder of work.
Hourly pay $26 - $28 / hour depending on qualificaitons.
Job sharing may be possible.
Responsibilities :
Provide leadership, direction and inspiration for the Youth Ministry, Sunday School and Family Ministry activities of First Presbyterian Church
Youth Ministry
In collaboration with others, develop a youth fellowship that inspires a sense of belonging.
Lead and resource monthly activities or events that reach out and engage youth, grades 6-12.
Communicate regularly with youth, their families and the congregation regarding youth events.
Maintain social media and web presence.
Maintain a database of youth members and parents.
Sunday School / Christian Education
Be present at church most Sunday mornings, 8 : 30 - 11 : 30 am, to ensure teachers are present, and arrange coverage if needed. Sunday school is not offered during the summer months.
Facilitate Sunday morning gatherings at church for high school students during the Sunday School hour.
Work with the Christian Education Committee to recruit and support Sunday School teachers, ensure curriculum is ordered and distributed, and Nursery staff is in place.
Family Ministry
With the help of the Christian Education Committee and others, organize and help facilitate seven or eight special events each year. Included in these are two Wednesday night dinners, the fall Education kick-off Sunday, Sunday morning Advent Creations, the Christmas Pageant service, Easter Sunday brunch, and the Teacher Appreciation Sunday at the end of the education year each spring.
Work with the Christian Education Committee and church staff to organize, plan and facilitate Vacation Bible School.
Additional Expectations
This position will involve 15-20 hours per week. Job sharing is an option. Office space will be provided at the church, but there will be the flexibility to do some of the work remotely. A laptop computer will be provided.
Report directly to the Pastor once a week.
Attend once a month meetings with the Christian Education Committee and report about plans and needed support.
Attend weekly staff meetings as often as possible.
Evaluation :
The Pastor, a member of the Personnel and Administration Committee and a member of the Christian Education Committee will conduct an annual performance review. The job description and adequacy of compensation will be reviewed annually.
