What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Supervisor - Paper position at First Quality?
We are seeking a Controls Supervisor- Paper for our First Quality Tissue facility located in Anderson, SC. Controls Supervisors specifies designs and implements complex controls systems and software programming on paper machine production equipment and associated machinery. Provides training and assists Controls Technicians in solving complex problems. Provides supervision of Controls Technicians.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Promote an action oriented safety culture embracing safety as a core value, instilling and exemplifying a safety mindset for all team members resulting in an incident free workplace.
- Work in conjunction with Quality department to ensure finished product satisfies all finished product quality standards.
- Work with maintenance work order system to plan and schedule work for the Control Technicians.
- Leads/Supports internal Project and Process Engineers, Maintenance and Production personnel, OEMs, vendors, and contractors to design, install, interface, and start up new equipment and process controls.
- Will supervise, assign work, provide performance monitoring and reviews, and provide daily priority setting for Controls Technicians.
- Responsible for maintaining DCS’s, PLC’s, HMI’s, servo systems, motors, drives, sensors, vision sensors and data collection and analysis software, based on our companies controls standards criteria. Assesses, identifies, schematically designs, and makes complex program modifications in DCS’s, PLC’s logic, HMI’s programs and servo controller logic to improve individual equipment and overall system’s performance.
- Performs high level troubleshooting, in-depth critical thinking, and utilizes all internal & external resources to solve any electrical, mechanical or process problem.
- Work hands-on with the team and others troubleshooting machinery to help build confidence during repair situations.
- Coordinates machine data collection and archiving as well as assists in the analysis of this data. This requires interfacing production and lab equipment to the plant network as well as maintaining and improving the data historian system.
- Leads Controls support during machine installations and upgrades. This includes interfacing auxiliary equipment, identifying and correcting errors in programming and wiring and ensuring vendors and contractors are meeting our needs and expectations.
- Expected to keep abreast of all of the new controls technologies, industry trends, health and safety regulations and standards that affect current operations.
- Provides technical and operating training to production, warehouse, and other personnel as needed. Assists in project planning and forecasting as part of budgeting process.
- Provide training of Control Technicians with new control equipment or schedule outside training to enhance troubleshooting skills.
- Confers with all levels of the organization to coordinate activities of individual departments and communicate pertinent information that may influence operations/productivity.
- Drive 5s in the maintenance shop.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years industrial controls experience in a related industry. Advanced knowledge of electrical theory and principles of operation.
- 5-year supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in a lean manufacturing environment preferred.
- Knowledge of PLC Rockwell Logix platforms and Valmet DNA.
- Knowledge of DCS a plus, Valmet systems preferred.
- Knowledge of networking and fieldbus’s a plus.
- Knowledge of CMMS maintenance work order systems.
- Knowledge of various types of pressure, flow, temperature, consistency instrumentation and instrument calibration.
- SAP knowledge preferred.
- Personal Computer skills including specific controls programming software and basic e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet applications, and project management software.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to coach and mentor team members.
- Ability to organize, retrieve information, and handle team members tactfully.
- Effectively communicate in situations involving various educational and employment levels.
- Active listening skills.
- Must be flexible to adapt to changing and varying work requirements.
