What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemist position at First Source Worldwide, LLC?
First Source Worldwide (FSW) manufactures and distributes tailor-made chemicals and colorants. We focus on sourcing quality chemical and dye products for use across multiple industries and applications including leather, textile, paper, coatings, carpet, wood, HI&I, and more.
FSW is looking for a chemist to work first shift Monday through Friday.
The chemist will:
- Conduct R&D experiments: design/development/commercialization
- Taker ownership of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
- Assist marketing team in creation of new product brochures and customer outreach
- Perform routine quality control testing procedures for incoming and outgoing products and samples to ensure compliance to customer and FSW standards and specifications.
- Work with production staff in ensuring product conformation to set standards, making adjustments and recommendations as necessary.
- Prepare materials, solutions, and equipment for lab procedures.
- Conduct necessary tests / experiments as directed by lab management.
- Maintain detailed logs of lab work and incoming vendor and customer samples.
- Enter testing data into the company ERP system.
- Prepare samples of products for marketing materials and sales staff.
- Compile and interpret results of tests and analysis.
- Prepare technical documents: SOPs, WI, TDS, SDS, COA requests as needed.
- Create and monitor process control charts for raw materials and production batches
- Coordinate with production operators, other labs and management for continuous improvement opportunities.
- Make technical recommendations on suppliers and their raw materials
- Maintain a clean work environment up to 5S standards by routinely cleaning work area and equipment and documenting compliance.
- Maintain organization of lab equipment and files; filing appropriate documents as directed.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned
Our chemist will need:
- Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Material Science or Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge of general chemistry (colorants, resins, additives) and the safe handling and uses of chemicals, including their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
- Ability to operate lab equipment such as a spectrophotometer, lab dyeing machine, lab oven, crock meter, analytical scales, and others.
- High proficiency with arithmetic, reading comprehension, and language skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain quality control conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- Ability to use Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Word and Excel and other IT software; knowledge of computer based SFA tools.
- Organizational skills and ability to record and recall tech data for review.
- Troubleshooting skills to determine causes of operating errors and deciding how to correct the issue most effectively.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
