Community Engagement Specialist
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend availability required.
Supervisor: Community Development Program Manager
Location: Rotating – Community-Based Locations throughout Delaware

Job Summary:
The Community Engagement Specialist will play a crucial role in empowering low-income individuals and families by fostering meaningful engagement in decision-making processes that impact their lives and communities. This position requires a strong commitment to social justice, community development, and building strong relationships with diverse populations.
Responsibilities:
Community Outreach and Mobilization:
- Conduct outreach and engagement activities in low-income and underserved communities.
- Identify and mobilize community leaders and residents to participate in decision-making processes.
- Facilitate community meetings, workshops, and other events to gather input and feedback.
- Train community members on effective advocacy and communication skills.
- Provide guidance on strategic planning and goal setting for community initiatives.
Needs Assessment and Program Development:
- Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify the priorities and concerns of community members.
- Collaborate with community partners to develop and implement programs and initiatives that address identified needs.
- Ensure that programs and initiatives are culturally relevant and responsive to the unique needs of the community.
- Incorporate community input and feedback into program design and implementation.
Capacity Building:
- Provide training and technical assistance to community members and organizations on topics such as leadership development, community organizing, and grant writing.
- Support the development of community-led organizations and initiatives.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions on topics such as strategic planning, budgeting, and evaluation.
Advocacy and Policy Change:
- Advocate for policies and systems changes that improve the lives of low-income individuals and families.
- Collaborate with policymakers and other stakeholders to advance community priorities.
- Support community members in advocating for their own needs and interests.
- Assist in developing and implementing advocacy campaigns.
Reporting:
- Develop compelling narratives that highlight the impact of community programs and initiatives and illustrate success stories.
- Collect and analyze data to measure program outcomes and effectiveness.
- Prepare reports and presentations to share with stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in a related field or relevant work experience.
- Experience working with low-income and marginalized communities.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or another language.
- Experience with community organizing and social justice movements.
- Knowledge of local and state government policies and procedures.
