What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Maintenance Technician position at First Student?
At First Student, we pride ourselves on providing safe transportation to over 5 million students and passengers daily. Our fleet includes Thomas and Internal school buses, which require regular maintenance and repair to ensure vehicle readiness and safety.
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. As a member of our shop, you will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual DOT maintenance inspections. You will also diagnose and repair various vehicle systems, including brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions.
In addition to your technical skills, you will be expected to maintain accurate work orders and assist with mobile emergency services. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans. Our competitive compensation package includes up to $25 per hour based on experience and qualifications, as well as a $3,000 sign-on bonus.
To be successful in this role, you will need a valid driver's license and a willingness to obtain a CDL while employed. At least one year of automotive or diesel maintenance and repair experience or technical school education is required. You must also possess a mechanic's tool set and be willing to participate in ASE certification programs.
