The Program Instructor of First Tee - South Puget Sound (FTSPS) will assist, lead, teach, and coach First Tee Life Skills Experience utilizing the First Tee methodology and curriculum at scheduled classes. Through this experience, you will help young people become responsible future citizens and committed, active golfers. Additionally, you may participate in curriculum development, administrative tasks, and other duties as desired.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Become proficient in the delivery of all age-based lesson plans by completing First Tee Curriculum training and updates, as necessary
  • First Tee Level I training must be completed within the first two months of employment, Level II within first two year (maximum), and continue on the Coach Pathway as appropriate
  • Coach First Tee Life Skill classes, School Program, and Community Program classes
  • During the school year, the schedule is typically from 2:00pm to 7:00pm, Monday through Thursday, and summer hours will vary depending on class needs.
  • Maintain consistent and regular attendance
  • Commence and end scheduled lessons on time
  • Provide accurate participant class attendance records
  • Make the game safe and fun for all participants and provide a safe environment in all areas, while adhering to the standards of the First Tee Code of Conduct
  • Be charismatic, personable, and motivational in working with youth
  • Provide Director of Participant Development with participants’ information and progress through the badging process
  • Convey the chapter’s brand image to the community
  • Maintain, monitor, and organize all equipment areas and inform the Director of Participant Development or equipment needs
  • Assist in any other coaching capacity (i.e. tournaments, outreach, community partners, etc.)
  • Represent the chapter at community events


Qualifications 

The following characteristics are necessary for success in this position:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including late afternoons, evenings, and weekends (site dependent) as well as summers.
  • Must be able to provide personal transportation to various program locations including, but not limited to: Meadow Park, Madrona Links, Sehmel Park, Lake Tapps, and Boys & Girls Club locations
  • Time commitment varies based on scheduled classes, averages 18 to 30 hours per week depending on season (higher in the summer)
  • Organizational Skills
  • Ability to organize class materials and coaching tools
  • Ability to maintain security of environment and equipment
  • Capacity to evaluate lesson plan application and delivery
  • Communication Skills
  • Ability to teach lesson and communicate verbally in a positive way to participants and parents/guardians
  • Keep Director of Participant Development informed of all participants eligible and appropriate for National Opportunities


Position Benefits

  • Part-Time or Full-Time Available
  • Salary Range: $28,000 to $52,000 Annually
  • Schedule: Sunday to Thursday
  • Bonus Program Based on Personal and Organization Performance
