These character education programs are offered at golf courses, schools, and youth centers in the community.
Position Summary
The Summer Coaches are responsible for coaching and mentoring young people to become positive role models and active golfers through the delivery of daily life skills and golf instruction in a safe, fun and engaging camp setting. These positions help maintain the goals of the organization’s strategic plan and may be involved in other chapter projects as needed.
First Tee — Southeast Wisconsin seeks individuals who are self-motivated, can work independently and as part of a team, supervise others, and help young people learn. The best candidates will need the ability to communicate and work with youth and effectively instruct those students in a fun, activity-based environment. Full and part-time opportunities available.
Key Responsibilities
Programming and Coaching
- Ensure top quality program delivery, assisting all instruction of First Tee classes and on-course playing opportunities
- Teach basic golf skills to participants, ages 4-18, and follow lesson plans to set up fun activities for participants
- Integrate First Tee Life Skills Curriculum with golf skills to guide and coach young people to become future citizens and active golfers
- Supervise and create relationships with youth in our organization
- Deliver curriculum and appropriate activities that meet the developmental needs of youth
- Assist Program Director with any necessary communication among participants, parents, and volunteers
- Assist with program setup, registration, delivery and breakdown
- Make the game fun and provide the ultimate experience for participants to learn golf and life skills
- Assist with supplemental programs, and continuous learning programs: i.e. leagues, family events, tournaments, or additional opportunities
- Ensure a safe environment for participants, coaches, volunteers and parents
- Assist with equipment needs and maintain the quality of equipment and all instructional areas
- Assist with hosting information booths at student, community and non-profit events to promote chapter programming opportunities and events
- Work with and oversee volunteers in daily responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned

- Enthusiastic for an active lifestyle and passion for using sports to teach character enhancing values to youth
- High attention for detail and effective time management is essential along with the ability to multitask
- Demonstrate exceptional communication
- Charismatic, personable, and motivational in working with youth and volunteers
- Highly professional demeanor
- Ability to handle complex and difficult situations with thought and confidence
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Ability to be outside in all weather conditions and transport/lift/roll equipment that may be upwards of 75 lbs.
- Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties and business demand.

- Hours of work will depend on the number of classes and the class schedules at the assigned program location.
- The number of weekly hours may vary and cannot be guaranteed.
- This position is not eligible for health benefits or other full-time First Tee – Southeast Wisconsin benefits.
- All coaches 18 years old and older are required to comply with the First Tee Safe Sport policy, which requires a background check every two years and compliance training every year.
