What are the responsibilities and job description for the Church Pianist position at First United Methodist Church?
Position Summary: The Worship Service pianist and Choir Accompanist is responsible for playing during worship services/other church-related events. They are also responsible for playing during choir rehearsals. Ability to play organ is a plus but not required.
Job Description:
1. Coordinates with the Music Director each week’s selections for worship.
2. Rehearses with the choir
3. Rehearses at home or at church, is on time, and is prepared for the rehearsals or the scheduled services.
4. Is supportive of the Music Director.
5. Completes other tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor and/or Music Director.
6. Is familiar with the Personnel and Safety Policies and abides by them.
7. Is Safe Gatherings certified if accompanying choirs of Youth and Children.
Additional Skills
Be familiar/experienced with "Church music” or willing to learn
Be able to read music and/or lead sheets with chord symbols
Be able to embellish/improvise accompaniment to standard hymns/Christian songs
Be able to perform simple solo piano for preludes and background music when needed.
Accompany soloists / other instrumentalists (i.e.) guitarist
Be familiar with modern keyboard styles/electronic keyboards
Singing ability is a plus. (not required)
Contribute ideas to improve our musical worship experience.
Meetings Attend regular Staff meetings
Accountability: The Worship Service Pianist Organist and Choir Accompanist is accountable to the Senior Pastor and SPRC Chair and Church Council.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $34.33 - $40.64 per hour
Work Location: In person
Salary : $34 - $41
