What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of La Casa Tutoring position at First United Methodist Church?
FUMC is hiring a Director to oversee the La Casa after-school tutoring program, the English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, and a one-week Summer Camp in August. This is a 20 to 25 hour per week part-time position beginning immediately and lasting through April with the possibility of extending the position. Normally it is a ten month position, August through May. Salary is in the range of $18 to $22 per hour.
General Responsibilities
* Build relationships with families (children, teenagers, adults) to promote literacy and English language acquisition and provide ongoing support in a safe, nurturing environment.
* Develop and maintain partnerships with other churches and community organizations.
* Serve as a liaison between families and students participating in La Casa Tutoring and with local schools.
* Plan lessons, parental involvement activities, and scheduling for La Casa.
* Seek, train, and work with volunteers.
* Encourage cultural humility and cultural awareness by staff and volunteers.
* Work with FUMC staff and other FUMC ministries to build relationships.
* Seek new grant opportunities, complete grant applications and work closely with The Duke Endowment to continue the ministries and programs they support.
Educational requirements
*High School Diploma or Equivalent
**Undergraduate degree preferred but not required
*Experience in the education field
**Proficiency in Spanish preferred but not required
