zMinistry Assistant
The ministry assistant will support ministries of First UMC, Springdale by performing administrative tasks, coordinating calendars, ensuring proper communication, and organizing ministry events and volunteers. This role requires someone who is passionate about the impact of ministry in the church, administratively gifted, and experienced in being an intuitive, proactive gap-filler. The areas of ministry supported by this role will vary greatly and will require excellent time-management and communication skills as well as a flexible schedule.
The ministry assistant will serve staff members or ministry leaders of the church, including pastors. They work as a support system, taking a secondary role to further the goals of the ministry leader to engage in activities expressing Christian faith. In the leader's absence, a ministry assistant may be called upon to take on the leader's role.
Since the ministry assistant is mostly a service-oriented role under another's leadership, the quality of being supportive is essential. The assistant should exhibit loyalty, patience, and a willingness to be directed by the ministry leader. A ministry assistant must be flexible enough to work with the leader's ideas and plans for the ministry – while showing enough interest to offer their own creative ideas. They need to share the ministry leader's vision and priorities above all else.
Job Responsibilities
Strategy and Planning
- Coordinate and collaborate between ministries, such as – Missions and Discipleship; Administrative and Hospitality; Family Ministries and Childcare.
- Ability to step in as needed for a Ministry Lead, when requested.
- Aid in ministry scheduling and calendaring, such as – Congregational Care monthly check-ins, Hospitality Team schedules, and Bread of Life Tuesday volunteers for delivery and intake.
Tactical Execution
- Assist with special events and large ministry events, such as – LMP, VBS, Badges & BBQ, Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Festival, Alternative Christmas Market, as well as Childcare Christmas, Easter, and Graduation programs.
- Sunday morning connections with guests and new members, Hospitality teams, and member connections.
- Work with the Communications Director taking photos on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and at special events.
People Development
- Display a Christ-like love for people.
- Support ministry leads.
- Recruit, coordinate, and equip ministry volunteers.
- Interact and help ministry participants.
Administration
- Manage time to balance support between the needs of ministries.
- Assist in data reporting for The Bread of Life Food Pantry and His Helping Hands Clothing Closet.
- Assist in social media daily posts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 1 years of ministry experience
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written, etc.)
- Proficient in administrative systems and platforms (e.g., Google or Office Suite, etc.)
- Able to make decisions, problem solve, manage conflict, and work well on a team.
- Self-starter, learner, flexible, and adaptable
- Demonstrate good time management.
- Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
