About the Opportunity
This is an open temporary position with Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. Jersey Central Power & Light, an Operating Company of FirstEnergy, is looking to establish a pool of interest for Transitional Meter Reading positions in North New Jersey. In order to be considered for a transitional position, a candidate must successfully pass an EEI Meter Reading test.
Applying to this posting is an expression of interest to be considered for testing for future Transitional Meter Reader opportunities at multiple locations in Northern New Jersey.
Responsibilities:
- Regularly and customarily reads meters
- Reads meters and records on handheld processor
- Estimates readings when required
- Reports apparent improper rate classifications
- Checks Company meter numbers
- Reports evidence of meter tampering, diversion of current and other unusual conditions
- Sees that meters are properly sealed
- Reads and resets demand meter registers
- Checks time and resets water heating and time clocks
- Reports complaints or inquiries to the proper authority
- Familiarizes self with district rules, assigns folios to new accounts and marks location on route map
- Makes rereads or special readings
- Performs incidental clerical work
Qualifications:
- MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY PASSED THE EEI METER READING TEST
- Should be able to perform semi routine operations of moderate complexity and under directive supervision
- Pertinent and qualifying experience and training in a similar type and line of work
- Must exercise a moderate degree of judgment
- Must be familiar with the Company's safety rules applicable to this and related jobs
- Work moderately varied
- Frequent customer contacts of moderate importance required
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must have a working vehicle and proof of insurance in order to perform the daily duties of this job
EEI Testing
We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. We strongly encourage potential employees to review all information, including the sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual tests.
