What are the responsibilities and job description for the GI/Sterile Processing Department Tech position at FirstHealth of the Carolinas?
Provides assistive patient care in the GI Lab under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. This
position serves the following patient age categories pediatrics, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Level II
is a Certified Surgical Technologist who has met all of Level II criteria, demonstrates leadership
abilities, and is involved in staff education and committee’s acting as a liaison between all members of
the multi-disciplinary team. Considered a campus resource (constantly seeks out opportunity for
improvement-service specific).
Works in sterile processing and performs duties to include but not limited to decontamination of surgical instruments by manually washing/debriding instruments, packaging, wrapping and sterilizing instrument trays/peelk packs, etc. Utilizing T-doc for managing tray inventory.
Working Conditions Has efficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time. Involves
exposure to blood/body fluids, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases. Participates in creating
a safety culture by optimizing safety at all times.
Physical Requirements Able to access entire facility; lift, transport patients, supplies and equipment.
Demonstrates manual dexterity, hearing acuity, and verbal ability. Displays ability for standing longperiods of time, walking, lifting, bending, and stooping for the majority of the workday.

- Anticipates specific instruments, checks equipment, and obtains supplies for upcoming schedule.
- Maintains asepsis throughout procedure; identifies and corrects breaks in technique.

- Effectively reports endoscope failures or needed repairs to leadership.

Essential Functions Of This Position.
Education/formal training/licensure/certification experience
- Graduate of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technology
- Graduate of a training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, or Air
And
- Certified Surgical Technologist current and maintains Certification throughout employment.
- Minimum 2 years OR and/or Endoscopy experience preferred not required.
