The Senior Credit Officer is responsible for risk management associated with the distribution of bank loans and providing support and direction of all aspects of credit approval and review, as well as the administration of loan policies and procedures to ensure the overall quality of the Bank’s loan portfolio.

General Responsibilities:

  • Direct management of Special Assets relationships.
  • Reviews credit analyst’s work to ensure quality and consistency across the organization.
  • Reviews credit presentations, discusses the credit requests, and conducts annual reviews with the lender and credit analyst prior to submission to committee.
  • Ensures that credit presentations are accurate and complete, including sufficient financial analysis.
  • Works with lenders and Market Presidents on developing action plans and strategies on pass rated credits needing additional attention. May include site inspections and client meetings with lenders.
  • Identifies and initiates corrective action on credit problems.
  • Ensures the timely identification and reporting of loan policy exceptions.
  • Works with lenders on maintaining past due loans within acceptable limits.
  • Ensure that the credits are assigned the proper risk rating by the loan officer and or loan committee(s).
  • Assists the Bank’s Chief Credit Officer with examination and audit processes to ensure a smooth experience and positive results.
  • Assists the Bank’s Chief Credit Officer with FDICIA key controls.
  • Approves consumer, mortgage, and commercial loans with prescribed authority limits.

Proficiencies, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience, knowledge and training in all lending activities and terminology.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data using sound business judgement.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of banking regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, team and communications skills (written and verbal) required.
  • Strong work ethic and professional integrity.
  • Ability to take “full ownership” of issues until they are completely resolved.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, required. Emphasis on business, finance, and accounting.
  • 7-10 years of banking experience as a credit manager, credit officer, commercial lender or equivalent experience.
  • The Senior Credit Officer will have a thorough understanding of:
    • Loan policy, underwriting guidelines and credit procedures
  • Commercial loan types and their uses in loan structuring
  • Commercial loan documentation including security documents (UCCs, security agreements, real estate mortgages)
  • Real estate appraisals and evaluations
  • Environmental reports
  • Legal process including: bankruptcy, foreclosure, repossession
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Agriculture lending experience preferred
