We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Custom Applicator to join our agricultural team. As a Custom Applicator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining specialized equipment used to apply fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals to crops, fields, or land. This role requires a strong understanding of crop care, safety protocols, and the ability to work independently to ensure the optimal application of agricultural products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chemical Application & Operation:
  • Safely and accurately apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals to fields, crops, and land using specialized equipment such as sprayers, spreaders, or other applicators.
  • Operate and maintain custom application equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition and calibrated properly to achieve the desired application rate.
  • Follow a detailed application schedule and work closely with farmers or agronomists to assess the needs of specific fields and crops.
  • Adjust equipment settings as necessary based on field conditions, weather, and product specifications.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Care:
  • Perform routine maintenance on application equipment to ensure proper functioning, including cleaning, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
  • Inspect equipment before and after each use for safety, cleanliness, and damage.
  • Ensure all application equipment is calibrated and adjusted for accurate application of chemicals.
  • Recordkeeping & Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate records of all applications, including type of chemicals used, amounts applied, field locations, weather conditions, and any issues encountered.
  • Ensure that all applications are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations related to pesticide and fertilizer use.
  • Assist with the tracking of inventory levels for chemicals and supplies to ensure timely reordering.
  • Safety & Compliance:
  • Adhere to safety procedures, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and local regulations for pesticide and fertilizer application.
  • Ensure proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn during all application processes.
  • Be proactive in identifying and addressing potential safety hazards related to chemical application or equipment use.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work with farm managers, agronomists, and other team members to determine the best course of action for crop protection and nourishment.
  • Communicate effectively with clients or farm owners about progress, challenges, and any adjustments to the application plan.
  • Provide support and feedback for improvements in application techniques and practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional certification in pesticide application (such as a pesticide applicator’s license) is preferred.
  • Continuing education in agriculture, crop science, or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Previous experience in agricultural application, farming, or operating large machinery is highly preferred.
  • Experience with crop protection, fertilizer application, or working with agricultural chemicals is an asset.
  • Familiarity with GPS and other technology used in modern agricultural equipment.
  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of agricultural chemicals, their safe use, and the effects on crops.
  • Knowledge of calibration procedures for application equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain machinery, ensuring minimal downtime during application processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, especially when following safety protocols and ensuring accurate chemical application.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients, team members, and vendors effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions on-the-go in the field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, rainy, etc.).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks related to equipment handling.
  • Comfortable driving and operating large machinery, including tractors, sprayers, and other custom applicators.
  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, and reach during application tasks.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
