The Spanish Teacher, under the supervision of the Head of School, is responsible for developing and implementing a developmentally-based program of Spanish instruction for children from grade three through grade eight. The curriculum and teaching methodologies must focus on the reading, writing, and speaking of Spanish and be differentiated to address the needs of both second language learners and native language speakers.

  • A Bachelor's degree in field is required. A Master’s degree in field is strongly preferred.
  • Five years prior experience teaching Spanish as a second language and/or Spanish for native speakers at the elementary or middle school level.
  • Successful completion of Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Background Screening.
  • Proficiency/fluency in the reading, writing, and speaking of English and Spanish.
  • Ability to effectively interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Sensitive to individual children’s differences and needs, and be willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual needs.
  • Ability to relate with and speak to parents in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Willing to work in a team environment; be willing to share ideas & be open to other’s ideas; be flexible & willing to compromise.
  • Competence with basic instructional technology functions, including but not limited to: M.S. Outlook email & calendar; M.S. Word, Excel, & PowerPoint; web-browsing; apps; large-screen interactive devices, such as Smart or Aquos Boards; social media platforms; etc.
